This first step is the hardest... Well, if you want to do office work, but not sure where or what sector, I would start the other way around. List all the industries you do NOT want to do, and tasks you would rather not be responsible for. Sometimes, pointing out what you don’t want to do narrows things down very much.

Once you’ve sussed out the basics of what you want to do, draw yourself the other two crucial – where would you want to work, and how much would you like to be paid (be realistic about the money issue, as a PA in Hertford will not be paid as much as a PA would be in the West End).

Now you are ready to get your CV updated and start searching for jobs. There are a lot of resources for searching online:

Monster:
http://www.monster.co.uk/

Total Jobs:
http://www.totaljobs.com/

Jobiste:
http://www.jobsite.co.uk/

Guardian jobs online:
http://jobs.guardian.co.uk/

The Times Jobs online:
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/jobs

If your search is not as productive, change one of your criteria slightly, and see how it changes. I would use job searching as part of the studying of what jobs to do. You will see whether or not your expectations are realistic and how to adjust them accordingly.
When you do apply for jobs, always remember what you’ve applied to, because follow-up is the name of the game today. Call up a day or two after submitting an application to confirm arrival, and check fro progress every once in a while.

Don’t get discouraged by the searching no matter what. It’s a little difficult at first, but persistence definitely pays off.

Best of luck!

You should try and identify fun office based careers. Media and Creative Agencies are great - loads of jollies/drinking sessions/lots of creative input/relaxed working environment...
..and best of all you don't need experience, just a foot in the door and loads of enthusiasm.
Main drawback, you'd have to start entry level on relatively low pay but if you're any good it rises really quickly
Write a CV and cover letter and send it to every media buying and creative agency in London - if you're coherent and interesting enough, you might get an interview
Good Luck

I would go and register with some Agencies for a start and see what the market is like. You wont always get a pay rise just because you find a new job. Get your CV up to date, take it to the Agency and ask them to put you forward for roles.

Try Monster.com, or Total jobs.com. Look around the area and post your CV to places that interest you. Check out their web pages and look for the HR contact or vacancy pages and apply that way. Local paper. Loads and loads of places. Even agency's. Totaljobs.com will list loads. Bit of a pain doing the tests and what not but worth it in the end.

good luck

Try the biggies... monster, stepstone, jobsite...

Perhaps call a local firm of recruitment agents and see what they have, or perhaps try a bigger firm like Adecco
