Here's what to do:

your brow should start at the inner corner of the eye.

Using a pencil, place it at the base of your nose at an angle so it ends up at the edge of your brow; thats where the brow should end...

The curve of the brow should come approx. just to the right of the pupil or color part of the eye....again, you can use a pencil to line this up and see just where it should be.
If you have wide set eyes, the inner corner of the brow can come in very slightly; no more than 1/4 of an inch; this provides the illusion of a slightly closer-set eye;

If you have close-set eyes, the brow's inner corner should start approx. 1/4 of an inch away from the inner corner of the eye.

When tweezing, tweeze in the opposite direction; that is, slightly pull your skin in one direction, then tweeze in the opposite direction; this a lot less painful..........

Use an old toothbrush and brush the brows straight up, and tweeze any longer hairs; then brush the brows downward, and tweeze any that may show up at that direction...Then do the other eye...when you are thru, you really are not!! ALWAYS go back and check the 1st brow again, brushing up, check, tweeze of needed, then brushing down again, tweezing if needed..and then go back to the other eye....

Check your brows at least once every other week for new growth...

If you have a squareish face, aim for a rounded brow; if a rounder fuller face, aim for a slight angle to the brows; you NEVER repeat your face shape in anything; necklines, earrings, etec..so a square jawed lady would NOT wear square necklines, but rather a rounded or scalloped neckline...nor wear square-ish shaped earrings............see??? it's very simple when you get right down to it!

I know this is long-winded, but I used to be a makeup artist and this is what always worked for my classes that I taught...

You really should think about having it done for the first time at a salon. Then all you would have to do is pluck stray hairs as they grow in. It's easier than trying to figure it out for yourself.

But here it is:
1. Start with a clean makeup free face. Wash your face in warm water to remove any excess oils, open pores, and help free any ingrown hairs.

2. Then use an eyebrow pencil to draw a line in the hair following your natural curve of hair growth. Use this as a guide.

3. Using an eyebrow brush, gently comb your brows so that the hairs are laying flat, in the natural arch (see your line) and in an outward direction of growth. You shouldn't have any hairs looking like they are growing up towards your forehead to down to your eyes. This will help you to only pluck the necessary stray hairs. You should not be trying to give yourself new brows at home (thinner, different shape, more arch, etc...). You should only be plucking stays.

4. Use an angled pair of tweezers, you get a better grip and less chance of the hair breaking. Stright tweezers may slip on the hairs, causing you to have to pull more than once on the same hair. Ouch!

5. Pluck only the hairs below the eyebrow line, never above. Pluck only one hair at a time. Take a few seconds after each hair to see if you need to do more, or if you can stop. Plucking too many will look just as bad as bushy brows.

6. You should start in the middle of the brow, at the highest part of the arch. Work you way to the outer edge of the brow. Then go back and work in towards your nose. Your brows should extend slightly beyond each corner of your eye.

7. After you are done plucking, use a cotton ball soaked in tea tree oil or witch hazel to sooth the skin.

If you are doing it for the first time, go have it done professionally. It would be easier, and more worth the money. Because first timers usually messed up even with the best tips.

If you get it done professionally, it would save you much time and money wise if you weigh out the pros and cons, which I won't. But basically, she would shape your brows for you and all you would have to do after that is the pluck the stray hairs out every month.

if its your first time, get it done by a professional at the salon, then study the shape of your eyebrows, and from there, only tweeze under the eyebrow, not above. put loose powder to allow the hair to be easier to pluck out.

Had the same problem. Went to a beauty shop and had them professionally tweezed the first time then just kept it up.

You should have them waxed first, it is quick it hurts less than tweezing and once the hair starts growing back you just pluck them, it's easier especially for a first time

I asked this 2 days ago and the best advice I got was go to a beauty shop first. Have a pro do it and then just touch up their work when the brows grow back.

I would suggest that you go to a professional first and let them start it up for you. Then if possible you should be able to keep them up.

I do my on and I just follow my natural arch. I guess I do a pretty good job since someone is always asking me where I get them done.

Please, no matter what they look like now. . .

Go to a professional salon, tell them what you'd like, and then simply maintain the shape thereafter with tweezers or regular waxings. . .

I actually know a story about a young girl who tried to do it herself and ended up with nealy no eyebrows striving for perfection. ..and the sad part is she started out with gorgeous eyebrows that just needed a little touch up . .

Get a fog free mirror and pluck them in the bath. Start out getting rid out the "bushy" or "stray" hairs. Then slowly shape them.
