Sometimes, it's nature's law, and nature won't let you care beyond a certain amount.
"God First"
We have to look after ourselves, as the 1st law of Karma-Yoga, and so if we fail in that by going to look after others, then, we are not behaving correctly by the Laws of the Universe and Nature.
Also, there is the Law of "Balance" in nature - that if someone is not looking after or caring for us, then we are not allowed to care for that person, and if we do, then we receive PAIN, as our reward to teach us that there is a Natural Law of "Balance" and Reciprocity.
People like the Buddha and Jesus would deify themselves by raising themselves beyond the laws of the mere Universe, but we mortal Humans sometimes are FORCED not to care, just out of Self-Defence.
I wish I could could care more!

It depends, about what ? we all have differing ideas of things to care about for example my mother has a temper tantrum if any body dares to park outside our house and personally I dont care cos to me that is not important obviously some things are worth caring about but it is a personal thing .

depends about what? I don't care if the toilet roll has cute pictures on or not, but i do care if my family or friends are injured or ill. And about other serious matters.
I think its OK not to care about some things but you may have to fight with your concision.
