Seems like all indie bands release a song, then 6 months later when they're more famous, they re-release it. The song's out there in the shops if you want to buy it, so as far as I can see it's just a cynical way of pushing forward the momentum of hype.

obviously I don't mean really obscure stuff when they only printed 500 to start off with. People like Kaiser Chiefs, Guillemots, Hard-Fi, Sigur Ros get plenty airplay, but they all do it

I believe it's kinda like a new store when it opens. It first has a "soft opening" to test the market, then goes all out on a "grand opening"...

In my opinion its because they are too lazy to write their own songs, as they are too busy partying. Then when they re-release them, its because their money has run out, and they need more spondoolies. (money)

Bands who do re-makes and re-releases, don't work as hard as the likes of Mariah Carey, Mary J Blige and so on, who spend time writing and recording.

That's my opinion.

My kids keep wondering how I know the words to to-days tunes... I just let them believe I am a Cool Dad... little do they know all the tunes are from my youth - the 80's & early 90's... No one writes any songs worth listening to these days..
