Christmas was getting quite expensive for us, with 15 family members all buying for each other (not to mention other sides of the family) So now we do a secret santa where all 15 names put in hat and each person draws a name and buys for that person only. We limit the present to £25 (maybe up it this year but the amount dosent really matter) not a penny more or less!.

Christmas day we all get together and open the secret santa one at a time, there is usually a very thought about present along with something silly to make up the money. This means a whole lot more to each of us than previously getting presents for the sake of it, everyone really thinks about the 1 they have to buy, and its also a great deal of fun.

So as for what to buy for people - that really depends on who they are and what they like - I like to buy something that I know that person would appreciate.

People always like hand-made gifts. You can take jars or baskets and turn them into kits filled with ingredients for a favorite recipe, along with the recipe card. For example, my husband makes a wonderful chili that people always comment on, so he wrote out the recipe and put all the non-perishable ingredients together in an inexpensive basket.

One thing I like to do is decorate shirts. You can get a sweatshirt at Wal-Mart for about $6.00, and find patterns on the internet. Check at Michael's, Hobby Lobby, JoAnne's or other such stores, and you might find other easy crafts like that.

Really depends on the likes and dislikes, interests and hobbies of the people you are buying for. Most women love bath sets and lotions, espicially from Bath and Body Works! Most women also love yummy scented candles. Flavored tea and coffee sets are also very nice for those who like coffee and tea. If you wait till a little closer to Christmas Wal-Mart always comes out with TONS of gift sets to suit everyones interests! They have tea and coffee sets, hot sauce sets, bath and body sets, make-up sets, perfume / cologne sets, margarita making sets, meat and cheese sets, just about everything, but when in complete doubt gift certificates or gift cards make nice gifts.

Get everyone together and agree not to exchange this year. My family started last year and it has been fabulous, let me tell you! We all get ourselves something we want. No wasted $$ from presents thrown to the back of the closet, given to Goodwill, or returned at cut-throat clearence prices.

Not giving is the only way to go. I only buy a gift or 2 for my child. (She gets stuff all year long, so no reason to buy a ton).

You obviously have access to a computer.

Pull your favorite CDs and burn the tracks to your computer (if you don't already have them on your hard-drive). Make custom CDs and labels for each of your friends. It's simple, creative, personal and reuseable.
