yes but we produce lots of gas and thelike sell it abroad then buy back at extortionate prices. we need to fight back, i am fed up with being ripped off, every month I have less and less to spend.

Answer me this, WHY do these companies not reduce costs and take a small cut in their multi billion pounds of profit. and in answer to the person who thinks I am pathetic, i am not, and i will not sponge off a freind, we will join forces and fight back, I will not sit back and let this government steal every penny i earn, I am fed up with fat cat bosses who earn thousands a month and still they are greedy for more, Greed and Coruption is what it is, this used to be a grerat nation, now people are to gut less to make a stand, and fight back. Scotland can rise now and be a nation again. stop wasting millions on wars and space travel and useless things like that and invest in the people we have before we become a third world country.

The government takes about 80% of the price in various taxes. Also, nobody says a thing when the price drops to about 15 dollars a barrel. High taxes has got nothing to do with Fat Cat bosses. Nobody complains about pop stars, footballers, television and film stars. But high taxes are caused mainly by public sector inefficiency, massive benefits payments, to name but two. Labour governments always raise taxes to fund their high public sector expenditure. This government has increased the public sector payroll by about 850,000. One could go on and on. I hadn't realised that underneath your question was Scottish Nationalism. Will that mean no more Scottish MP's in England and a readjustment to the Barnet Formula. You also need oil companies to find, drill, extract, refine and market oil and petrol. And the EU control the waters around Britain.

Just speaking from my little corner of the USA I agree with you that the oil companies are taking us all for a ride. I mean really how many billions of dollars in profit do you need? And why can't they cut the world a break and think of the "little" people that use their products daily to live? When will we all learn that we have to think of the other guy? Personally I think that if we all quit being so damned greedy and self-centered everything will get better.

Greed and corruption is everywhere and we just accept it..we need better. We all have to take responsibility and make sure we vote when we have the opportunity...run for office, be involved and engaged. Don't just sit at your computer and whine...

And I always thought Scotland was a Nation. And a cool one at that!

Yes the oil companies are soaking us, I mean 400 million to retire!!!
what the hell is that!, They do it because they can. If you want to do something about gas prices,do everything in you power to not use it, get a small car, do all your errands in one trip; what I mean is don't jump in the car and drive 5 miles to the store just to buy a pack of gum or some Twikies or something. Think of new ways to avoid using the car, get together with friends and neighbors and if you need to go to the store call them up and ask if they need anything, and they will do the same for you, or use a bicycle if possible to go to the store. The only way to prevent them ripping you off is if you don't use their product, and this is good for the environment and traffic conditions too. Give it a try.

Will all due respect to the fact I agree with the basis of your argument, that it seems as if we end each month worse off than the one previous.

Greed is the incentive for innovation. Innovation is the incentive for greed. It's a cycle, and a good one. Regardless of where you are in the world, nobody does anything innovative out of the goodness of their hearts. I gurantee you NOBODY drilled at spindletop because they felt sorry for anyone else. Bill Gates didn't buy what became MS Dos because he felt a greater need to do good in the world. Nintendo never created a game system just becuase it was "cool" and gave it away for free. People need to invest in themselves, it's not a government responsibility.

Re-examine your budget before you go on a political rage over high gasoline prices. You must travel a great deal to be so worried over gas. Maybe your spending in other areas is affecting your cash flow. Sit down and review what you spend in a month. Try cutting back on spending such as entertainment, clothes, eating out, etc.

Then when you have to go out and run errands or go to the mall, the bank, or what ever...map out your day to minimize gas consumption.

Also, make sure that you car has also had its tune-up. A car that needs a tune-up will usually consume more gasoline. Another car tip....if you are carrying unnecessary items in your trunk this adds weight to your car....thereby increasing gas consumption. Check that your tires have the correct tire pressure. Low tire pressure increases road friction on your tires while driving....again increasing gas consumption.

I do hope that you read this and gain something useful from it. Good luck!!

This sounds more like a declaration and less like a question. May I submit that folks are neither more or less greedy than thousands of years ago. I seriously doubt that Scotland will break off from the UK. Are you a member of the Scottish Nationalist Party?

I agree with you. We are losing the battle of representation within our governement. If our purses were as big as the major companies then maybe things would be different. We as Amercians need to stand up and be heard I am not sure how we go about doing it though.

If you will stop ranting nonesense for a moment and examine what makes your gas cost so much, you will find the government taxes rake in approximately 10 to 15 times the amount the oil companies make in profits. Stop barking up the wrong tree.

More like earning thousands a day.

You heard the Enron tapes as the board of directors are cackling their heads off about screwing over people?

What kind of mindset is that?
