About 6 Km long beach on Arabian Sea at Ganapatipule (Maharashtra) is very neat and clean. The sea water is absolutely crystal clear. The place is about 400 Km south of Mumbai. Nearest Railway Station is Ratnagiri in Konkan Railways. Ganapatipule is about 45 Km from Ratnagiri and should be reached by MSRTC buses or by other hired four wheel vehicles.

Maharashtra has 720 Km of beach. Give or take few kilometres of developed land.
Bombay has many beaches around it. If you go north of Bombay, few Km. you are in Gujarat state, go south you stay in Maharashtra State.
If you stay away from big city and visit any beaches and see people in the ocean enjoying/playing, then it may be fairly safe to go enjoy the ocean yourself.
World wide lots of beaches are not fit for us to enjoy and Maharashtra is no exception. You can always ask the local people about the beach condition and Look for warning signs.

Kashid is one of the best beach in may ratings , in this region. The reasons why I am calling it best is White sand, blue seas, green mountains, paddy fields, and rivulets. Kashid has a 3 km stretch of beach with the cleanest, whitest sand and Casuarina groves that make just the perfect setting for a beach holiday. Also close to Kashid are Famous Murud and Janjira. Murud is an old fisherman town with one very nice beach...with calm water and Janjira is a famous fort in the middle of the sea near Murud. The setting for the fort is perfect for any film shooting

Kihim & Mandwa
About 20-kms from Alibaug and easily accessible from Mumbai, Mandawa is a beautiful and clean beach. Those searching for quite surroundings, the nearby Kihim beach with its unspoilt and isolated ambience is a lovely place.
Velneshwar
Situated 170-km from Ratnagiri is the village of Velneshwar. It's adjoining beach is clean and natural and is lined with coconut trees. Swimming and other water sports are possible there as the beach is free from rocks.

There are no clean beaches. All the water pollution is poured right into the ocean. They don't check for coliform bacteria like they do in the United States.
