Call your pediatrician, tell them you need an appointment, today. Its probably one of the following:
Pink Eye
A Sty
Something as simple as an eyelash in his eye, irritating the lid
An allergic reaction, you dont say how old your baby is but alot of newborns have a reaction to the ointment that doctors put in their eyes soon after birth.
for some relief before you get to the doctor put a warm compress over the eye for a few minutes, that should reduce some of the swelling and provide a little relief
And just a note, for everyone saying get off the computer and see a doctor, keep in mind that this question was posted at about 8 am eastern time, most doctors offices dont open until 9 am, maybe mom is just trying to put her mind at ease until she can call.

it could be an allergic reaction to something. a new toy, food or laundry product used on his bedding or clothes.Or a bug bite. call the Dr. Also make a list of everything he has eaten in the last 24 hours. You don't say how old the baby is but. Remember you can eat something for a while and not be allergic. You become allergic. My son was allergic to pear juice. Which they use in almost every baby food for flavoring. Call the Dr. and they can advise whether he should be seen or what you should watch for. I wish you all the best.

You are being given the best advice by people on this board. Your child needs to see a doctor NOW. Be a good mum and get away from the keyboard and tend to your child.
It could be a sty or an allergic reaction - but we are not doctors - and that is the only person you should be talking to now.
So get dressed - get out of the house - and if you cannot afford a doctor - find out where your local health clinic is and get over there--NOW.

My babies had similar, I took them to the doctor and they gave me drops. The main thing to remember is not to panic as babies often pick up on this. Always remember it's better to be safe than sorry when it comes to your children

it may just be a flea or mite bite, I would take the baby to the doc. They may prescribe an antihistamine or cream.

I would take him to a doctor asap. Only the doctor can diagnose and prescribe medicine for this problem.

It could be what my baby had. She had an infection on her eyelid. Call your pediatricians office and try to get an appointment as soon as possible that way you can get medicine for it.
