People are almost certainly homosexual because of genetics. There is a great deal of scientific evidence that it is inborn. Beyond scientific evidence there is anecdotal evidence.
The fruit fly study is actually fairly conclusive. But the pheremonal and eye blink studies are also compelling. I've included links below for those that are interested. Beyond that, research increasingly suggests that at least for males, Xq28 is the crucial gene. I am saddened by this, because I believe that once it is proven, gay people will be wiped out -- and I think that is sad, because given the number of species in which homosexuality exists (see Dr. Bruce Bagemihl's book "Biological Exuberance" from St. Martin's Press) I think it serves a purpose, and has been evolutionarily preferred. The recent Italian study by Andrea Camperio-Ciani and colleagues pretty clearly shows both how and why a gene or gene set causing homosexuality, particularly in males - would survive and be preferred evolutionarily.
In addition to scientific evidence is the anecdotal evidence. I never in my life had any sexual feeling for a female -- nor any romantic feelings. I have had romantic feelings for other males since 8. I figured out it was sexual at 11 and came out at 14. I never felt anything for girls, neither do other gay males I know. Some boys manage to suppress it for a time, but when it comes out they admit to having always had the feelings. Likewise for bisexuals, although bisexuals always have feelings for both, and therefore are capable of choice -- for real. Gays are no more capable of choice than straights are.
There is nothing either wrong or unnatural about being homosexual. Enjoy the links -- and think about the gay people you know. While some, particularly younger ones, may be risk takers or may be into drugs --- think about the young straight men you know -- how many of them are risk takers -- or into drugs? It's gender and age far more than sexuality. Others are, I would bet, settled, calm, caring and successful.
The only thing being gay does is change who you sleep with. No one chooses it however, no one is driven to "that path." It is simply natural and normal for some people. As I am sure you would hate to be told consistently, by everyone around you, that being heterosexual was evil, wrong, unnatural -- and "that path" when you know perfectly well it is natural to you, understand that gay people feel the exact same way. It is natural and normal to a gay person -- and having intercourse with, or romance with -- a member of the opposite gender is unnatural and abnormal. It would be wonderful if you extended the same courtesy to gays that you would prefer extended to you in reverse.
Kind regards,
Reynolds Jones

OK...if you wanna become a lesbian it is a long and treacherous journey
1, you must stop shaving your legs and pits
2, get rid of all makeup and skin care supplies
3, wear only Levi's, plaid shirts or wife beaters
4, wear only clunky icky foot wear
5, grow a large behind
6, get a mullet
7, chew off your finger nails
8, coat the underside of your fingernails with grease
9, learn to spit tobacco
10, adopt initials as your given name...(L.T. B.J. R.D)
11 drive a beat up pick up truck
12 rent a broke down single wide trailer
and when you done with all that....call me...love those rough dyke's

People don't become lesbian or gay. They just are.

You don't "become gay"...you are born that way or not. Whether you choose to act on it is the only decision.
Why would anyone voluntarily choose to become gay with all the homophobia in the world? This is not to say that gays aren't happy with their lives, only that being straight is easier.

when I say I accept people as they are....my former fundamental friends say that I have become gay
I prefer the stereotypical heterosexual stuff, but if I love myself or show openmindedness and just talk to people without the bias or taint of "they are gay" then suddenly I am accused of the same
my theory:
we are all gay, it's just some people are in stark denial...lol
I'm sure I'm not the first person to say this

See, you have to go to this place that's sort of like the DMV, and you take a number, and then you fill out some forms, and after that you see a gay loan officer, and if you get approved, THEN you're gay.

Contrary to popular belief, not all people are born gay. Some people through experience and conditioning can actually begin to favor a gay or lesbian lifestyle. Don't get me wrong this is still not a choice. This conditioning usually take place at an early age when the person has no choice in the matter. I'm talking about sexual abuse. Have you never met a person who was molested as a child and now defines their sexual preference as gay or lesbian? I have met several.

In short: biology + social forces = sexual orientation
The biology (genes and hormones) is strong in of itself and the social forces often operate so quietly that the developing child or adolescent does not realize what is going on.
Some theorists too believe that bisexuality is the default orientation and that homosexuality and heterosexuality are learned.
Whatever the case, there is no real choice for the individual. He or she is what he or she is.

Well, applications can be found on line under http://becomegay.com. Be sure to include your email address. If you don't receive a response within two weeks, you must re-apply/. Once your application is accepted, a short essay is required, followed by a physical examination, interviews with your references and a search of your closet, underwear drawer and kitchen. After that, if all goes well, your "your gay" card should arrives withing a week.
