I was wondering if any of you woman know what effects birth control can have and how likely it is for it to happen? I mean for the pill, not the patch. And, do you know if you can get it in Washington state without a parent/guardian's permission? I'm 15. And just so I don't get any rude comments about this question, I'm not asking because I'm having sex, I'm asking because I have a really heavy period flow and I heard it can help to keep it at a regular flow and also help acne. Thanks! :)

Okay for all the people saying to talk to my mom, I already have and she thinks I want it for sex and she says that if I'm going to have sex then I'll have to deal with concequences of getting pregnant myself because she's not going to prevent it if I'm going to do it, but that's not why I'm asking for it. And she doesn't care about my period thing so that's why I'm asking if I can get it without permission.

- I think it's a great idea. And seriously then if you do become sexually active you are covered as far as pregnancy goes. (Still use condoms though cuz of STD's). THe pill / patch will regulate your periods & make them lighter. SIde effects are mostly about blood clots. If you smoke or over 35 then using these methods can give you some clots in your blood. Weight gain / loss sometimes happens. If you gain weight, it is water weight & it usually comes off by itself after about 3 months once your body adjusts to the meds. At first when you start taking it, your body may have some "pregnancy" symptoms. Breast tenderness, sore thighs, nausea, etc...

There are side effects with every medicine. Long term usage of the pill has been linked with some bad side effects, but it has also been linked to some good, protective effects. However it doesn't sound like you are thinking of using it long term anyway - just to solve a problem that will probably settle down as you get older.
I personally used the pill for over 20 years, and I'm still alive at over 50 and healthy. And for the first several years, I was using a much stronger version of the pill than is used today. So I'd say, don't worry about the health issues. Use it until you're 18, then stop and see if your periods have settled down, which they probably will have.
Sorry, I can't advise on where to get it. It will certainly help your heavy period flow but I'm not sure if it will help acne.
What helps acne is, treating your skin very gently. A lot of people try to cure the problem by using harsh products to get rid of the oil - all that does, is make the skin produce even more oil. The cosmetic companies should be ashamed of themselves for producing products that satisfy teenagers' desire for strong products, without admitting that they can make it worse!
Don't use soap on your face: buy a soap-free face wash. Never let hot water near your face (only lukewarm or cold). Clean your face thoroughly at night, but in the morning use only a tiny dab of product, or none at all. If you get a spot, dab some Clearasill on it, but dont spread it all over your face.

Get yourself to Planned Parenthood....Get on the PILL or the Depo shot....don't have sex without some sort of birthcontrol Don't trust a condom to prevent unwanted pregnancy either. Call the Planned Parenthood in your STATE they will let you know if you need parental consent or not.
At 15....you're a bit to young to be having SEX. You're just beginning life and should be concentrating your efforts in other areas!!! School, sports, Social things, DANCES. Home coming GAMES. Etc!!! To much emphasis is put on teens to have SEX at an early age when they are not emotionally, physically or financially responsible to accept the consequences that an unwanted pregnancy could have on their lives.
Keep those JEANS zipped up....don't believe the trash guys are going to tell you. They are just wanting in your pants!!!! Don't think for 1 minute that once they jump into those JEANS that they're going to be the #1 ....You'll find out once you're older......and more mature there will be that #1 that will be with you hopefully forever like the end of one of those sappy fairy tales....and it will be "FOREVER THE END"!

Ok, i had the same problem when i was younger, birthcontrol does work for that and yes I do mean it does work, only one problem, there is some that can make you sick, so you may have to switch brands
go to your mom explain that to her, let her know why you want it..umm she should be able to take you to the local clinic and they have a low income rate basis or a lower payment thing any ways..
depending on the brand it should help with acne
and some clinics allow u to get it w/o the gaurdians permisson, but if its not for sex your motheror father or legal gaurdians shouldnt have a problem with you getting it and if they do eplain that to the health care pro when you go and vist and talk to them.
there is side effects, umm weight gain, and they recommend not smoking because of bad effects..
here check out these sites maybe it can help....

It depends on which kind of birth control pill ur taking. Some pills have a negative effect on ur body that will cause High Blood pressure, swelling in ur uteris, and it could even make ur period flow a lot worse. Before u start to take any pill you should go to a doctor first and he/she will tell u which pill is right for ur body. Hope this helps, Good Luck

but no matter what a doctor would need to check you out first befor you get on the pill

I have heard that birth control makes you gain weight. I think that if you are active this wont be a problem. I believe if you go to a family planning clinic they should be able to give it to you with out your parents knowing. I think though that if you aren't having sex, that you should talk about it with your parents and tell them you want it to help control your flow. Have you talked to at least your Mom about your flow previously?? If you have then it should be easier to talk to her about this. But if you still don't want to talk to her, at least consult your doctor to see what she/he says. As long as it isn't a life threatening situation I think that the Doc is bound by the client privilege thing. Good luck!!
Just read your update. Definitely check into the free clinic then. They are bound by the doctor patient privilege. You might even be able to talk to your doctor, but they might have to charge you for the pills, at least at a free clinic the pills should be free. Sorry your mom doesn't understand.

Talk to your doctor...talk to your doctor...talk to your doctor. And let him/her know that they are not to tell your parents. This is confidental information. If this doesn't work, go down to planned parenthood and talk to them, but talk to someone who can answer all your questions. Also, talk to your mom, explain about your periods and what going on the pill/whatever will do for you. Explain that this isn't about sex, but about a physical problem that this medicine can fix.

No suggestion can help you better than that of a doctor .Try to find out a physician or a counselor, that might make you more comfortable, and hopefully you would be able to discuss your problem.
