LOL! No we're not doomed! Pluto is still Pluto and is still affected by magnetic energy of the sun, and it still releases energy that is affecting the earth and all of us. Just because its now considered a dwarf planet in astronomy, does not minimize it's meaning in astrology. Don't forget that Scorpios are co-rulled by Mars, another VERY powerful planet

Classical, traditional, and medieval Astrologers do not use the outer planets: Uranus, Neptune and Pluto in their delineations, modern Astrologers utilize them. The traditionalists still practicing today will continue to ignore the outer planets in their delineations, just as they have always done.

Whether or not Pluto is classified as planet or not is irrelevant to modern practitioners of Astrology. The qualities associated with Pluto: power, control, transformation and the destroying or reforming urge, are still applicable whether it is called a planet or an ice dwarf.

Astrologers know from studying charts for 76 years, since Pluto's discovery, that Scorpio is co-ruled by Mars and Pluto. That will not change.

Astrologers use other bodies (not just planets) in our calculations, such as asteroids. Ceres, an asteroid, one of the bodies they may call a planet, already is in use by modern Astrologers. Other asteroids currently being used are Juno, Pallas, and Vesta. Chiron, a centaur, is also extensively in use. Chiron is believed to be ruled by Virgo. Non-planetary bodies can be ruled or in dignity by one of the 12 zodiac signs. Another example of that is the lunar nodes. In Western Astrology, the North Node is Exalted in Gemini and the South Node is Exalted in Sagittarius. The North Node is in Fall in Sagittarius and the South Node is in Fall in Gemini.

It makes do difference as to what Pluto is categorized as, planet, ice dwarf, or whatever the astronomers come up with as a classification system, the characteristics associated with it still stand.

Astronomy and Astrology as philosophic disciplines diverged a long time ago.

This isn't to day that an astronomer cannot be an astrologer of vice versa but astrology is an entirely different way of looking at the universe.

To astrologers, Pluto will remain a planet because it still exerts a spiritual influence on people regardless of it's scientific classification.

Perhaps now it's only Mars.
The sign Scorpio covers the eight 30 degrees of the ecliptic (from 210 to 240 degrees). These correspond to October 24 through November 22. Scorpio's ruling planet is Mars (and Pluto).

I would expect that astrologers will continue to do their calculations on Pluto. Seeing as it's all a load of rubbish anyway, it won't matter that Pluto isn't technically a planet any more.

To the person who was wondering why they were getting thumbs down for suggesting Scorpios could get Eris instead: it's because Eris is a dwarf planet, like Pluto, so you wouldn't be replacing Pluto with an actual planet!

Here's something to consider, who was Scorpios' ruling planet BEFORE Pluto was even discovered (last century)?

And what about the 100 extrasolar planets (planets orbiting other stars). How do they affect our lives?

You see, Astrology is nonsense - always has been, always will be. The only good thing to come out of it was Astronomy.

Wondered that myself.
Mars was before Pluto was discovered. I expect we'll be back to sharing Mars with Aries.
I personally will continue to be ruled by Pluto; you can't just decide a planet isn't a planet anymore.
I guess size does matter.

Pick the same planet prior to Pluto’s discovery.

the sun (a star) and the moon (a, uh, moon) are considered planets, in astrology - i don't think pluto redesignation is going to change the way astrologers look at and use it. they don't read science news, anyway, so they probably don't know.
