I studied the clait2006 course last year at college as an adult student but have noticed that alot of people are offering ECDL and clait plus on the internet. Has anyone tried them, if so which would you recommend? I've noticed that BT charge only £2 per month, is this added to your phone bill, they are a bit vague.

To answer this question you would be better deciding what you want to learn about.

I could recommend an MCSE course but if you are not interested in becoming a network/support enginner then this would be the wrong course for you.

If it's a general "PC basics" course your looking for then ECDL and CLAIT+ are good and can be obtained for free by calling your local LSC (Learning Skills Council)
www.lsc.gov.uk

Are you looking for something more specific?

As someone who has ECDL, I would not to bother with this course. I was already fairly experienced with MS Office before taking the exams so all it cost me was a bit of revision time and the cost of the exams (if this is the case then go for it). But I have yet to come across many employers asking for ECDL or knowing what it is.

For ECDL you will need to take seven exams. Most of the work is pretty basic with some of it touching on more advanced stuff. You will need to take EDCL Advanced for higher qualification, but very few companies offer these courses.

I don't know much about Clait plus but it looks like you can tailor the course to you own needs, so it might be better option. But my preference would be to look at Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) - the old MOUS courses.

It depends on how you want to learn but I would buy the Microsoft Press book and go through doing the exercises and try to teach myself before parting company with a wad of cash to some cowboy.

I would say Clait is harder course especially the second Grade as lot of trainers have flumped at some of the questions.
Watch Bt not good company !!

ECDL maybe better in terms of who is offering it i.e more Digiral Learning centres also has the advantage that more companies are aware of it so in that aspect it maybe superior,Technically Clait is more advanced and gives you more

"Good" is always going to be relative. Personally I hate Mac with a fiery passion, but that's my prerogative. As far as PC laptops go, I like HP, Sony, and Dell. Keep in mind that these manufacturers all have laptops from very budget-oriented oversized paperweights to extremely high-end masterpieces of engineering. Basically, a computer for every budget. If you want what I consider to be the best of the best laptop computers, alienware and voodoopc are second to none :)

Get yourself on a course for "The European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)"

It's pi$$ easy and when you've passed you can teach other people how to use computers (at basic level) - by setting up your own business or joining theirs (e.g. teaching in schools or colleges) and earn yourself about £18 an hour.

I'd do web design at LearnDirect, if you have a centre near you. mostly you do it online. Once you can design websites - nearly every business has one. You can be a webmaster for someone else or do your own thing. I'd forget BT, they just rip you off. I pay £20.99 for line rental, UK calls, EU calls, calls to North America and New Zealand and Australia and my broadband - that should go to 8Mbs when they get around to putting the new equipment in the BT exchanges. More info on my website and ideas and stuff!

My £20.99 doesn't include 0845,0870 or mobiles....

Trial and error, unless you want to a qualification or to do web design. Even, the latter I learned by trail and error.

Some people just like doing courses though ....?
