I agree wholeheartedly. Ive been to a few countries in Europe and all nationals I meet seem to be of the nature you describe. Better conversation and outlook on life. Europeans seem to find me interesting because I am English but It does not concern me if I was to become non-english over night. It is a dismal culture we live in.

Yes, I think you find more narrow-minded people among Brits than among certain other Wester-European nations.
Don't dislike being British. If you feel like others are better than you in some ways you can always improve yourself and become more open-minded yourself. You are you, an individual. Just because many British tend to be less open-minded than some other nations doesn't mean that every Brit is like that or that it can't change.

I was Britain in May. It is a wonderful contry! I am a white guy married to an Asian woman, (as is my brother in law, only he's English). Even though I live down south, I never get the kind of dirty looks and snide remarks as some might expect. We got the most looks we have ever gotten in London, in the park near Buckingham Palace ( I think it's Hyde Park?). I was really surprised by this. I never thought they'd have a problem with mixed marriages.
I think Londoners have a reputation for being more stuck up than the rest of England. The people in Manchester (near Bury) were very nice to us, and I don't think we got any dirty looks. Snodland in Kent was very nice to us too.
I think it just depends where you go. And who knows, maybe we just caught London on a bad day.

As nations we all differ however slightly and having a snapshot of another nation always looks better than actually being brought up there.
I am not in love with this time of Britishness, it was exciting in the sixties when we appeared to be leading the world in many things and breaking down the social and regimental barriers, the leggacy is the pressure and attitudes we now have to live with
But as my colleague that moved to France a few years ago has found the grass is not always as green as you might expect.

I completely agree. Aside from the obvious point that the majority of Brits seem to think that everyone should speak English (and if they don't then just shout louder at them, that'll work).
I've lived in Germany and Austria and in both countries people, random strangers, seemed far more polite and courteous. I was never singled out as the "foreigner" whereas here, some of my friends who are not British are treated very differently just because they weren't born here, it doesn't matter that they speak fluent English or that they are a tax-paying hard working citizen, they are just "foreign".

Some people can be narrow minded, but that's like saying the French are arrogant, or the Americans are stupid, they are not all like that maybe a select few....so don't judge a book by its cover...i am very open minded and I'm British!

I disagree, not all Brits are narrow minded and for the ones that are then that is there problem, no one has the right to judge you no matter who you are or were you are from and if you let them do that to you then more fool you, just be yourself and ignore the narrow minded people that are all over the world and not just in Britain, at the end of the day we all only have ourselves to answer to.
