Of course a well written screenplay, it at least ensures that the movie is worth watching even if the other aspects are poor.

Screenplay. There are some good old movies that were written well and had some to no special effects (or cheesy effects that are part of the movie but are not THE movie.)

I've seen movies with very good special effects, like Haunted House, that really doesn't make sense. Another movie of this kind is a movie with Liam Neeson and Catherine Zeta Jones about a house and a bet. Cannot remember the title. It sucks and even the great special effect cannot save the movie.

Movies like Philadelphia, with minimal of effects works for me.

But movies with a well-written screenplay and a very good special effects like the Lord of the Rings trilogy is a gem.

A well - written screenplay. It mentally stimulates the mind more than special effects.

Screenplay. If the story is compelling iot doesn't matter if the effects are not-so-special, but a bad screenplay makes the eye candy unwatchable.

Depends on what kind of movie you are producing. If it's a Bruce Willis genre...you want the special effects...If it is well written, well, then that is also a bonus. LOL

A wel-written screen play of course. Sound effects is just a add-on. Think about how many dumb screen plays you've seen that had great sound effects but no meaning or you could not follow.
