To those that said no when this was originally asked, You need your heads examined. No series comes close to being better. A lot of series may have ranked higher in regards to ratings but as far as brilliantly written series is concerned, The Twilight Zone is far and away the best ever. Rod Serling was ahead of his time and along with Charles Beaumont, Richard Matheson, Earl Hamner Jr. and others, They crafted some of the finest work ever on tv that still holds up well today.

Yes, it inspired loads of film makers to excel to the peaks of entertainment, except none of them came close to the same creepy qualities as Rod Serling.

Not sure it was the best ever, but it ranked at the top. Also remember the brilliance of Rod Serling, he made the show as fantasy/sci-fi so that he could get alot past the censors.

I agree, it was a series ahead of it's time. I enjoyed watching the Twilight Zone reruns, when I was a little Girl. I especially loved the one with the William Shattner when he was on the Plane, and the one with the Stop watch where the man stopped time forever. there are so many that were great.

It is now and will always be considered ONE of the best shows ever on TV and i believe the big reason is that the episodes where written in such a way that you found yourself connecting with the main role. You could get lost in the moment in almost every show.My personal favorite was the street corner vendor giving a man WHAT HE NEEDS!

I love Twillight Zone. Love the marathons on Sci-Fi for New Year's.
i love the fact that you need to pay attention to the whole episode or you may not understand it.
Especially the episode with Burgess Meredith, when he loves to read but his wife wont let him. Then he finally gets a chance to when the world ends, but his glasses break - I feel like crying for him.

The writing was brilliant, yes. It's too bad such writing doesn't happen anymore. If you asked these people what they thought the best series of all time was, they'd tell you "Survivor" or "Friends" or "Law and Order." People don't respect good writing, nor do they recognize it.
