I know the postal mail carriers are now called this, but this didn't have to do with mail, I think

"Mail carrier" is a quaint term popularized by television. The correct term for the people who deliver your mail is "Letter Carriers." The National Association of Letter Carriers has existed since 1889.

Its a Politcally correct name for a job. In the past Mail Carriers used to be called "Postman" or "Postmen". Today that is a very sexist job description!
Because there are women who perform the job as well as any other man can do the job.

Does that answer your question dear?

cheers!!!

Well, it's based on workers in the postal service but I've never heard it used in other contexts.
