Sony is damn expensive and at your price range a niggle free iPod nano is a hard to find deal. The iPod Shuffle isn't everyone's idea of a soothing listening experience so try out Transcend or iRiver(the prismic models are cheap, especially if a year or a half older), Creative mp3 players are always worth a look at.
Don't fall for cheap no name things, if you decide on something check out reviews on the net and weigh the choice.

I can't recommend a specific type for under $100...but stick to the big brands like Sony...Samsung etc. I bought a cheap mini mp3 player from ebay ($40 - $50) and it was awful. It was cheaply made and generally a tacky piece of kit. I've also found its best to buy from an actual shop so you get a valid guarentee. Stick with the big brands!.

Forget about the Sony as these guys have suggested. Your best bet will be an iPod Nano. If you cant afford the 200$ for it, get a second hand 1. Its still the better option.
