I'm not in favor of death penalty, but given that it's a legal figure and until they abolish it everywhere, isn't the guillotine a cheap, equalizing and harmless way of killing, more than poisonous injections or the cruel electric chair?

Why shouldn't it be a serious question? I'm not in favor of the death penalty, but since I can't (still?) change the laws of the countries in order to abolish it, I'd like to know your opinion about the ways of execution which are less mind-harming.

I'm not in favor of the death penalty, either, but the guillotine is the most effective way of executing somebody. Yes there's a bit of a mess and the human rights people will be all over someone if they used it. But it's one shot, head comes off, person will die. The Chair is effective, but if the executioners mess up in the process, it's nasty, but there's no guarantee of dying the first time, which is more cruel than having your head chopped off. Lethal injection is a "kinder, gentler" way of execution, yet seems to me would be more cruel because a person dies slower and I would imagine that person thinking about what they did to end up there with family and friends of your victim staring at you. That would be torture, which is more cruel than having to be shocked twice to die.

I honestly think we should use drop hanging, the kind the British used in the last years of the 1900s until they abolished it around or before 1970. It was very professionally done, with full effort to ensure the neck broke rendering the condemned unconscious and free of any suffering. There would not be much time to register the pain of the drop, lasting maybe 2 tenths of a second after the fall before becoming unconscious. We should heighten the degree of heinousness of the murder(s) that call for the death penalty. Not nearly as many would be sentenced to death. The appeals process sped up to no more than 5 or 10 years.

People prefer execution protocols that leave the body untouched. Whether the convict suffers or not in reality is secondary: s/he isn't seen to suffer with the lethal injection system.
Likewise, the British hanging method as used until Britain abolished the death penalty and also used for the Nuremburg convicts, while in fact much like the guillotine (it separates the spinal cord from the brain and kills instantly) leaves the body relatively clean, unbloody and unmarked.

I’m not in favor of death penalty too. So, perhaps the guillotine is in fact the best way (In which sense?) to execute a person but I should agree with Lovoisier, and I would not loose my head electing between different ways for killing people!

It was thought to be more humane during the time of the French Revolution. But this is not a serious question from anyone, let alone someone who says he's " not in favor of death penalty." Thumbs down, but no heads off.

Perhaps. It was developed as a more merciful method than hanging, which can often go wrong. To me it just seems kind of messy, though.
I often wonder what the decapitated person senses the split second after the head is severed. Surely for a few seconds they must have the realization that their head is not on their body. Weird.
Love, Jack.

I think you still feel things for a bit after your head comes off but... what can you do! I don't see why if they want to be humane, they can't put people to sleep first and then administer a lethal dose of something. As it's people who have done very bad things though, why should it be so painless? I see your point on the cheap part of it, but the clean up must be a nightmare!

Guillotine is a primitive and barbaric method. For me the Lethal Injection is more acceptable in the modern world. Its a more peaceful way to just die in your sleep.

I would suggest that we use a dull Axe.If a person did something horrible enough to warrant the death penalty, screw 'em.

I would think the mess would be terrible.
I would think hanging to be the quickest and cheapest form of execution as long as it's done right where the neck breaks.
