As far as I'm concerned, he's what I would call a musical genius.

My favorite opera: Turandot
Favorite arias: Un bel dì vedremo (One fine day we shall see) from Madame Butterfly; Signore, ascolta (My lord, listen) and Nessun dorma (Non shall sleep) from Turandot

Sorry, I'm in fantasy mode right now...needed an escape from reality...

Yep - Gotta love Puccini - He's amongst my favorites like Wagner, Bizet & Rossini - but there's something really fabulous about Italian opera! Something about the vibrato and the emotion of the tenors, as well as the sopranos - There's a term for it, but I'm to lazy to Google right now... But anyway... Great choice in Puccini. Incidentally Turandot is my favorite Puccini as well :)

I agree. I've been involved in Opera for a few years,,,in the production sense, in Set construction, scenic painting, and property master, and enjoy most of the music.

Puccini certainly is one of the best, I also enjoy Verdi, and others.

Grrr, I can't find the copy of my fave aria. A young woman is having a disagreement with her father, about a young man she is in love with.

The aria from Madame Butterfly really makes me emotional! I went to see the opera one night and I was very embarrassed to have not taken any tissues!

I love "Turandont" Del Monaco/Tebaldi as lui, Inge Borkh in the lead did the best recording, from my standpoint. I love "Tosca" and also "La Boheme" and the aria "che gelida manina" I love the character of Baron Scarpia in "Tosca" and the great arias like "Recondita armonia" and Scarpia's great closing of act 1 aria.

I think Verdi was a far greater genius, but I love them both.
