There are many sites one is APOD (astronomy Picture of the Day), It contains one picture from the space for each Day since 1995 with plenty of information through the links that each pic has.
It is NASA's website and there are link for educational purposes.
IU'll give you all these links.
Here is the archive of all days.

This is Today's Pic (14 Sep 2006)
http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap060914.html
at the bottom of the page there is:
< | Archive | Index | Search | Calendar | Glossary | Education | About APOD | Discuss | >
In the "education" you'll find many interesting LINKS. Give a try.
Another site is http://www.space.com/ it is a must for surfing.
I bet that you are gonna be hooked in Astronomy with these two sites.
If you want a more user friendly site I should suggest to try
http://www.kidsastronomy.com/ or
http://starchild.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/StarChild/
They are for kids, but also for adults who are beginner in Astronomy, with very simple but comprehensive topics.
Good luck and good surfing.
If you want any more info about astronomy, feel free to contact me:)
