1st Class should be 1-2 working days
2nd Class approx 2-3 working days (Royal Mail state allow up to 5 days)
3rd Class - you cant buy as stamps, but for business post or direct mail you can use Mailsort 1, 2 or 3. Mailsort 3 you should allow 7-10 days for the post to drop. There are numerous other mailsort, walksort and mailplus services, but these are all business/bulk mailing options

Theoretically the 1st class should arrive the following day and the 2nd class the day after. There is no 3rd class stamp.

Postage for uk mail is now down to the size of the letter aswell. On first class local area delivery can be next day. or 2 days as it goes further around the country. If yoou send post second class it does take a day or so longer but this is because they process the first class first. the futher you send a 2nd class letter because of the timing you may find that it arives the same day as a 1st class letter.
ps third class is via carrier pidgeon so please dont put on return to sender if not delivered

first class - 1 - 3 days (depends where in the country you send it)
second class - 1 - 5 days
third class - 1 - 10 days

So even a third class stamp might get it there in one day, perhaps because you're mailing it to the same town.

What happens is that as the mail is sorted through the machines, the first class mail gets bagged and processed first - if there is room in the bag (or the carrier still has time to sort), they move to second and then third class - so on a light mail day, third class gets there as quick as first.

The difference is the cost.
Royal Mail have guidelines for delivery but other than special delivery there is no guarantee that it will ever get there.
BTW, there is no such thing as 3nd or 3rd class delivery in the UK!

As long as you post them before 5/5.30pm and there are no problems:

1st Class - Next Day
2nd Class - Within 2 - 3 days

And I have never heard of 3rd class, sorry.

There is no difference, except first class is a couple of pence more for a stamp. They all arrive once you have enough mail to make it worthwhile for the postman to visit you (if they haven't lost your mail completely that is).
