I wouldn't. EVER. Under any circumstance. Even if someone killed my own family I would sort it out myself. I hate the pigs. What about you?

Actually, I have a master's in criminal justice and in the UK you don't have to legally help them.

Since you people made this question about me, when I was asking about you - Have you ever been stopped by the police just because of your ethnicity? Ever since you were a little kid? And when you complain to your MP 'cos the policeman said it's because you're Asian, nothing happens? Also, have you ever been physically abused by a police officer? Well, if you haven't, then you don't know what happens in the real world and your opinion means nothing to me.

We are grooming a new generation of drones. Sheep who will follow blindly, act obediently and tow the line. They don't recognize the dangers of the police state they are helping to create. Even with that being the case, taking the stand that the police should not be used is reactionary past logic.

The police need to be made to SERVE US. That's what they're there for. Any thinking person can see the dangers of pseudo military police force, but refusing them is empowering them. It makes you a target and it separates you from society.

Fight the oppression, force change and be knowledgeable. Your neighbor will turn you in. Money is king.

I can appreciate why you feel as you do but, yes, I think I would go to the police in some circumstances. I have to say the idea of mob rule doesn't really appeal to me. But would I feel differently if I had been persistently mistreated or discriminated against by the police? Maybe. Or would I opt, instead, to use my case as ammunition to directly campaign for reform? I don't know.

I have to say that, personally, I am very ambivalent about the police and this means that I often find a lot of my own prejudices kicking in when I meet someone and they say that's what they do. It's certainly not something I would ever consider. This is firstly because I think much of the law needs reforming and it would therefore be against my principles to uphold it and waste time slapping people's wrists (or worse) for stuff that I don't think is wrong (eg taking drugs). Secondly, I appreciate that such a role potentially has an appeal for bigots or people with a conventional and un-thinking sense of morality (I'm talking Kohlberg stage 3 here).

However, I would admit that I'm not quite an anarchist and this, of course, creates a dilemma for me. I also think that some of the current problems within the police force could be remedied if more progressive people joined. This, of course, will only happen if there are radical changes to the law and this country becomes more liberal and genuinely inclusive. Of course, I realise this is easier said than done.

Do you think that it is a realistic comment to say that under NO circumstances would you go to the police?! What's your reason behind this? Do you believe that all officers are the same? If one is bad, they all are?

I'm not naive enough to think that all police officers will bend over backwards to help me. I know that a proportion of the police force treat citizens, especially those of a minority, in an unfair manner. Discrimination, sexism, racism....it's happening. Fortunately, it is not every officer, there are a great number of decent officers out there, doing the job that they love and helping their communities.

Do you honestly believe that if you came home one day and found your wife and children raped and murdered, you wouldn't call 999? Do you have the skills and training to find out who carried out the act and do you think that you would be able to punish the killer? I know that I wouldn't.

How about if you are attacked on the street by a gang and a passer-by calls the police. Would you lie on the ground, say "no thanks pigs, I'll handle this myself" and let them walk away?

Maybe your little sister comes home from the park one day and you find out that she has been molested. Even if you did find the paedophile, what would you do? Slap him about a bit until he recovers a couple of weeks later and carries out the same act? Or report him to the police and maybe get him a jail sentence?

Ultimately what I'm trying to explain to you is that you can't paint the entire police force with the same brush. Regardless of the bad experiences you have had so far, you'll need their help one day, I guarantee it.

I'm not pro police, none of my family are officers and before you ask, I'm mixed race. I just don't think it's fair to generalise because of previous bad experiences. In answer to your original question, yes, I would go to the police to/for help.

Yes I would. I am a law abiding citizen. However for the sake of argument let's consider your position. What is your proposed alternative? Should we all just arm ourselves and carry out vigilante justice for every perceived slight? Sounds like total anarchy and the breakdown of civilized society to me.

An interesting rant! Have you been a victim of these injustices mentioned? If so, then I can see why you hold the opinion you do. However, yet again you offer no solutions, only indictments. You asked for opinions and received them, when you didn't like those opinions you lashed out against others for not sharing your opinion. Policemen who violate the law should be dealt with, there are bad apples in every group, but it does not justify a breakdown of the entire system. As I stated before this leads to anarchy, and serves no ones interests. If everyone takes the law into their own hands society as a whole is doomed. So I ask the question again. Do you have solutions to propose? Or are you just venting in general? If the latter is the case then your question is pointless and self serving.

I am sort of with you, I wouldn't ever go to the police either, partly because I know some of them and partly because a few years ago my boyfriend got stabbed outside a police station and the police sitting inside watching refused to go outside because they wouldn't be safe. Funnily enough the people who stabbed my boyfriend have never been caught! My 'friend' who is a copper would do anything for a shag, if he pulls a woman over for speeding or drink driving she'd be let off for a few special favours, so I don't trust those police at all.

Yes and Yes. Most of the police force are decent people. It's programmes like the Bill showing bent coppers that give them a bad name.

I was reported to the police for telling some annoying kids to go and play up their own end. They said I was swearing at them.

Well when the policeman came and said what they had said, I started ranting and raving about it. I didn't swear once (because I don't swear)

The same woman who reported me a couple of months later told my kids to effin go back to where they effin belonged in effin England.

I had the police Sergeant in my house within minutes. I could have taken her to court but decided it wasn't worth the hassle as she was moving away in the following couple of weeks.

But yes I believe and trust the police. (although some of the younger lady ones tend to get on their high horses a bit) which lets the force down.

Some years ago there was a murder in our local town. On the same evening, in the same area, my son got out of his girlfriends car to buy some fags, and whilst he was in the shop a stranger got onto the passengers seat and told his girlfriend to drive off. Thinking quickly she took the car keys and got out of the car and went after my son. When he came out of the shop the stranger was running away. My son caught him and gave him a bit of a wack. The next day when news of the murder came out we were discussing whether he should tell the police, just in case this stranger had anything to do with this murder. He decided to report it. This was the worst thing he could have done. He was taken in for questioning, all his clothes were taken away, and he was hassled for months. Help the Police? If a Police car was on fire I wouldn"t walk across the road to piss on it.

I agree with you. I would never "interfere" with a cop doing his job. If he were in trouble, let other cops help him out. They get paid to help their so-called brethren. They aren't only jackasses in the UK, they're like that all over the globe. I didn't realize the term 'pigs' was still in use, but it's how I refer to them whenever I see they have a motorist pulled over beside the road.

Anybody who loves them is probably sick in the head or a family member to one of them.

would depend on the situation as to wther i would ask for their help. Last time i reported a purse i had left on a forecourt they said it was none of their business as it was on private property. Not even a driving licene was cause for them to take note as they told me to contact DVLA.
Would i help them? Nah, they get paid to do a job, let them get on with it.
I don't hate them but having grown up around them (in a nice way) i have learnt that they are just human too and that most of them would break or at least bend the law when it suits them. Coppers ain't what they used to be.

Their PC agenda, no pun intended, like most of the public sector, has started to get up my nose. They have become toadies of the PC brigade, feminists, anti racists, all criminals are victims unless you offend against one the sacred 'isms' etc. Then your feet don't touch. Sick and perverted.
