If I say I care about someone it means that I would do something for them and not expect anything in return, I would go out of my way to assist them for no other reason than just helping them. I would respect them for who they are and not what they can do for me.I would go out of my way and inconvenience myself to help them.

caring is an active verb. in other words if you aren't actually doing something you are not caring.
the doing could be listening, holding, hugging. it could be simply sitting with someone quietly as they work through their own thoughts or feelings. it could be providing them with something they need. it could be going into battle for someone unable to battle for themselves.
caring is not just a feeling. it is far more than that. there is no meaning to the word if you there is no action with it.

To feel you have a connection to that certain someone that you 'care' about. It's like a feeling of the need to protect that person.

Caring about another person, whether family or friend, can be defined as putting their needs ahead of your own. You will forfeit some liberty of yours, like your time and energy, to see to their needs BEFORE you see to your OWN.
Simply stated, when you care for someone, THEY come FIRST, even before YOURSELF.
