Then you conclude they were blowing smoke up your *** (telling you what they thought you wanted to hear) and you realize that the next time you get involved, you should be watching for that sort of thing. Learn from it and move on.

Several reasons:
= He/she did not mean it - deliberately lied
= The underlying circumstance(including you yourself) has changed
= He/she was drunk or under some intoxicating influence
= Another (better) "world" appears
= He/she is testing your reaction
= He/she is trying to experiment with life without you
= He/she is being stupid, risking a dull and harsh world
