Bakelite, like all the old phones. It was called Bakelite after the guy who discovered the reaction required to make the material Leo H Baekeland.
The Victorians had their own form of plastics.

Bakelite, a polymer that could be melted and poured into molds, giving a fairly hard, though breakable, material. Lots of things were made of it, specially casings for electrical household goods.

Plastic however it's now the Worlds un-doing because it does not rot a land fill headache it has to be crushed or melted and that damages the environment.
