I wish these specialists/scientists etc would stop trying to prove useless points. Surely intelligence is an individual thing, whether male or female.
As a woman it concerns me that this sort of rubbish is still getting headline news, when we've been striving for equality for over a century in the UK.

This cannot be right. Men are different than women not only physically but also psychologically. Men are suppose to assume roles that require encounter with the 'harsh' world out side the 'cave', whereas women by nature are assumed to take duties and responsibilities of more gentle in kind. Any comparison between mental traits and capacities of men and women must not lose sight of this basic natural difference.
Men however, in my observation, are more inclined toward solving matters of solid reason easily. Women, on the other hand, have emotional or sentimental aspect at its best possibly as a prerequisite to their all-important role in the creation.
In general pursuits of modern life however, both men and women are often seen performing equally efficiently. An in detail psychometric profiling or IQ testing might reveal some specific differences in their mental aspects but in general both men and women do just fine in their own good ways.

This is a very controversial argument that has been raging for decades. The problem is, who decides what constitutes intelligence?
For example, a linguist who speaks seven languages fluently, a Nobel prize winning physician, a musical genius and a prodigious mathemetician might all be considered highly intelligent, but may all struggle to master the rudimentary skills of one anothers' specialisms.
Boys struggle in British schools at the moment, largely due to the methodology of teaching - it suits the way the majority of girls learn better.Thirty years ago, the opposite was true.
SAT tests notoriously emphasise numerical skills above verbal reasoning skills and promote competition between students (which has been shown to motivate nales more than females). Consequently, it is of little surprise that this piece of research has found males to fair better in intelligence tests.
Of course, all the above makes a sweeping generalisiation. Certain skills have therefore been attributed as typically male, or female. However, people don't work like that; my wife and I are the complete opposite of these stereotypes - she can park, read maps and seems to have an in built GPS system, wheras I drive hundreds of yards from my intended destination in order to find a parking space I can driv into and then get lost on my way back to the car. On the other hand, I can multi-task, hold two or three coherent conversations concurrently and read people's emotions and intentions, where the missus can't read and listen to music at the same time and resorts to violence and shouting as a means of communication when things get tricky.
On the other hand, reading the above comments, many men appear to attempting to assert their superior intelligince through a display of ignorance... it's not exactly a shock, is it?

Oh dear, women do mature quicker than men because we are more emotional than men. Men have a better capacity for remaining detatched from certain situations but women tend to achieve more because by nature we are problem solvers....if something needs to be done .... we find a way to do it. Men tend to give up very easily and delegate what he is unable to cope with to someone else. Women will keep plugging away at something until they find a solution. Women are also much better at multi tasking than men. Men tend to only deal with one thing at a time. A women usually has many more responsibilities than men.... but that is just a general statement. I would much rather be a woman than a man.

A professor here in London Ontario, Phillip Rushton, has deduced that, according to the review of over 100,000 SAT scores, males are more intelligent than females. His work has not been approved by a panel of professors, therefore it has not been challenged or proven/disproven. This is the same professor who claimed 20 years ago that Asians were the most intelligent race.

Women will always be better than men, better than us in every way. You are more intelligent, have better reasoning skills and are able to multitask. You are kind yet vulnerable, strong of mind but not as strong as us of body. We want to protect you from harm. Which is why I think women should be kept in doors. Whilst you are there, is there any chance of some dinner (cos you are better cooks than us).
I am joking of course, in answer to your question its all statistical rubbish. I have a degree and more letters after my name than I have in it, I earn a nice fat wodge of cash every month. My girlfriend has no qualifications, is not that good at spelling and has an IQ level 20% higher than mine. So really all statistics are rubbish.

well nearly all the great composers, scientists, writers(though there are a couple of women too i suppose , j Austen, Brontes, Eliot etc) mathematicians , cooks, artists ,politicians , generals, are men
but the reason isn't i think because men are cleverer , but because women through evolution are in general more concerned with their families and immediate things.. of course there are exceptions .
in my experience men tend to experiment and try to break convention while women prefer to relie on the wisdom of earlier ages hence most men are dumb and suck at things like cooking and poetry and writing etc but a few of them end up as geniuses whereas while there are fewer geniuses among women, most women are smart.

It may and may not be true...intelligence isn't tested in school though your memory is. So in that sense women may be able to memorize better than men. I can say if you want to test your IQ go to www.IQtest.com (it is supposedly one of the best available) I did extremely well on it (146 to be exact and proud of it) now I also did average in school aside from math and science, but I have always said intelligence can not be taught either...it's like common sense you either have it or you don't.

No, I don't think so. There is no gender basis for determining and measuring intelligence. But there is gender bias in generalizing how men fare compared to women and vice versa.
One thing I can generalize will be regardless of gender but encompassing all people: SOME MAYBE MORE INTELLIGENT THAN OTHERS BUT IT DOES NOT FOLLOW THAT PRACTICAL-MINDEDNESS IS THE EXCLUSIVE DOMAIN OF THOSE WITH HIGHER INTELLIGENCE QUOTIENT.
