Philosophy means 'the best function of anything' - man/animal or matter - I suppose. It also means an awareness or feeling of satisfaction .. Humans do definitely feel happy to be knowledgeable and wise.

A state of satisfaction and serenity we see in animals also -- and one who is very close to vegetation also can perhaps say if they are happy or sad etc.

So philosophy is sort of 'all knowing state' - with a readiness to act as and when and howsoever provoked or invoked......

Philosophy = thinking.

I have never had a dog who could read philosophy

We can do philosophy about or on animals but animals, to my knowledge cannot do philosophy.

Maybe if there is life on another planet, there are some creatures who can out philosophize us. Who knows?

Philosophy is a field of study that includes diverse subfields such as aesthetics, epistemology, ethics, logic, and metaphysics, in which people ask questions such as whether God exists, what is the nature of reality, whether knowledge is possible, and what makes actions right or wrong. The fundamental method of philosophy is the use of reasoning to evaluate arguments concerning these questions. However, the exact scope and methodology of philosophy is not rigid. What counts as philosophy is itself debated, and it varies across philosophical traditions.

The term philosophy derives from a combination of the Greek words philos meaning love and sophia meaning wisdom. What philosophy is, or should be, is itself a philosophical question that philosophers have understood and treated differently through the ages.

It would be nice to think that cattle in a field were contemplating the meaning of life, but philosphy seems to be confined to man alone for the moment. If any other creature was capable I suspect dolphins might come close.
