Unfortunately, I've never been to Portugal. But I believe check http://www.portugal.org/ for information, if not about that place, but anything. Also try http://www.portugal-info.net/ and see if it's any of useful information for you. Good luck.

I agree with the above answers - Praia da Rocha is a beautiful place. There are plenty of restaurants - fish is always a good choice in the Algarve. Talking of fish, try to get to Portimão for lunch one day, and go down to the fishermen's docks for grilled sardines on the quayside - quite an experience!

My top tip is to hire a car. There is a wide of choice of companies operating from Faro airport, but book before you go (just search on "car hire Portugal", check a few prices and pick one!). Praia da Rocha is quite a way from the airport, so a taxi would be expensive, and there are some nice places to visit down that end of the Algarve. You also need a car to get to some of the quieter and more picturesque beaches.

They may offer you "deal" where you pay in advance (by credit card) for a full tank of fuel, but at a slightly discounted price. Don't do it! The alternative is that you stop near the airport and refill the tank just before you return the car. Unless you do a huge amount of travelling around, you won't use anywhere near a full tank anyway - we spent a week based in Albufeira last year, but went somewhere different every day, and the Peugeot 206 diesel we were given barely used half a tank!

We went to Praia de Roche in February 2003 for our honeymoon. If you stay on the main street, you'll find umpteen bars and restaurants. Best eaterie is an Italian restaurant there, but can't think what it's called. The best bar/cafe is called Ken and Dina's. It's a Welsh bar with live Sky tv. It has a pool table. Dina is Portugese and Ken is Welsh, it's a great welome in there. Not much to do there, it's mainly just a beach but you can walk to Portimao marina from there and that's nice. Can also walk to the end of a concrete slipway and it has a lighthouse on it. There is a few shops on the main street, and further along is a casino. You'll have a great time, but take a lot of money.

Get a lonely planet guide - they're a really good source of information about days out, restaurants etc. Enjoy your holiday - I'm really jealous now!
