It is a nice city to grow up in. Lots of things to do. Education, sorry to say, is not top-notch in the nation. Therefore, picking the proper schools is key. Some good ones are Lowell (public, and a magnet school for Berkeley and Stanford), University High (private, and I think a magnet school for the Ivy league schools?), and School of the Arts. Awesome museums, like the newly opened De Young Museum, and the Legion of Honor has the Monet exhibition available to the public.

There's another option you might want to consider and discuss with your parents...
A High School diploma is worth very little in today's job market, and it is advisable to get it over with as soon as possible. With your parents' permission, and if you've already completed Grade 10 in New Zealand... you can take the California High School Exit Exam...which will allow you to attend City College of San Francisco or any of the suburban Community Colleges.
This means you can get a headstart on your 4 year BA/BS degree program. After two years at college, you can transfer into a university as a Junior (as opposed to a Freshman, if you continued on in high school as a regular student).
If you've done well in school in the past, I don't think it'll be much of a challenge. Although the format is similar to the SAT, it is only pass/fail rather than a numerical score. The test consists of core mathematics (Algebra/Geometry), English grammar/reading skills, and the ability to write a concise essay. Not too difficult (it continues to amaze me.why so many High School students fail it every year). You can get information on registering for the exam here:
http://www.chspe.net/
As for San Francisco itself, it's at the center of the fourth largest metropolitan region in the United States: 8 million people (after New York City: 20 million, Los Angeles: 16 million, and Chicago: 10 million). You'll find plenty of places to go, as well as cultural activities to keep you busy.

If you are in SF proper, be sure you keep an eye out on the dates for registering for High School. The schools are not very good on a whole but there are some good ones (Lowell, SOTA, Washington, Lincoln, etc). That being said, the good schools get the most number of applicants so you need to get in early.
If you are not in the city exactly or will go to private/parochial school, there is less worry. It is a fun city to grow up in.

I have not lived in in San Francisco, but have visited many times, and I think living there would be really nice! There is so much to see and do! You can not see the whole city in even one week! Seriously! :)
