Not the piano - but i learnt how to read music by myself - and then learnt how to play the guitar with books and also some material online and a little help from a friend. It wasn't too difficult to begin with - just have to put Alot of time aside to memorize some things and play them over and over...and over :) Just when it gets to the hard stuff i think it's easier to have a teacher teach you some tricks..or else just learn the hard way. Good luck! Also as Harold Saeng said it's best to learn the theory first.

Yes. All you need is a piano or keyboard, determination and a music book that has the music written as letters rather than notes. Mark the piano keys by using stickers with the letters written on them. You will be playing in know time.

Yes, I have and now I'm a competant piano player. What I would recommend though is an electronic keyboard that tells you what the notes are on a stave as you play them. Most yamaha keyboards have this and its very useful for when you are trying to plough your way through a piece of sheet music!!

But it is definately possible. If you've got the courage to stick at it, I'm sure you'll do great!!!

Yes, you can buy books and DVDs that show you how and where to place your fingers. Some even come with a guide that you place on your piano that shows and name of the keys so you won't forget. :)
