hello
A firewalls job is to block traffic on a network and also
to monitor traffic from your computer to any other computer
on your network or on the web.
Once you install a Firewall software you will see that it blocks traffic by ports that means that if you want to ftp lets say your firewall does not allow ftp because port 8080 is blocked and so on. different firewalls work differntly.
but most firewalls work on that foundation therefore by installing more than one you kick yourself in the shins because the other firewall did it already creating multiple conflicts therefore slowiing network activity to a minimum.
I hope this helps.

I have been running XP's firewall at some time as Sygate and they worked fine.. in fact the router has a firewall too so I did run 3 firewalls while with XP.

It's possible to run two firewalls without any conflict. Mine is windows xp's and mcafe's, they both work fine without conflicts. you know that window xp's firewall is actually monitoring inbound trafic whereas mcafe is doing both outbound and inbound traffics. but if yours is having problem, make sure you check the options in the settings and return everything to default.

take eviatarses advice, it is a mistake to run more than one firewall on your computer as its more than likely that they will conflict; if your concerned, dont be one firewall is good security

You can run many firewalls as long as they are not all on your computer. e.g. hardware and software firewall

yes thats exactly it ..they do often conflict ...you may be able to find two that dont ..but there is no way of knowing till you try ...there really is no need for more than one anyway

If you run more than one then they should be on different computers, it is useless having two on the same computer.
