I had high fever for two days for which I took paracetamol since then I have been coughing .I didn't take anything for cough as I thought it better to avoid any medicines as far as I can as they will circulate through my baby too. Now its been 10 days but the cough is not going.

Don't worry about it. Just do as your physician says as far as medication is concerned. Coughing is something your body does to try and "fix itself."

Try getting a humidifier, cough drops work too. Also, try Halls Vitamin C drops, not only are they soooo good to suck on but they're good for you and they really help with a sore/scratchy throat.

To be safe, read the package to see if it's not recommended for pregnant women, but I think it's safe. Besides, it's chocked FULL of vitamin C which will help you get rid of whatever is making you sick.

But also, see your doctor, there may be more issues here than just a cough.

But long story short, coughing can't hurt your baby. But what's causing the cough just might, so see your doctor.

Congratulations on the new baby!

Hi

I know the cough must be driving you mad, and worried about baby well I had a chest infection for four weeks just clered this week, my cough was really bad. I went to doctor all he gave me was codine, it did not help a lot, but what he did give me was reassurance that it would not affect baby. I would go and see the doctor if I were you it will just give you reassurance.

Good luck darling
Anne

I assume it would be better for you and your child not to cough but I believe you are right that a medicine could be worse. I don't know the cause of the cough, but after getting my toothbrush sanitizer, coughing has not lasted as long. Mine is the Germ Terminator, perhaps check on www.amazon.com for options. Unfortunately it might take as long as about a week to arrive in the mail. So you might in the meantime try using the dishwasher (unless your toothbrush(es) will float off while in there) or soaking your toothbrush head in antiseptic mouthwash for about 1 hour or longer after each use, killing bacteria and viruses. Good luck!

I am just getting over a really bad cold and pregnant. The dr told me the only thing I could take for a cough is Robitussin DM. I am past my first trimester though. He also told me not to take any cough drops if they have menthol in them. I would call your obgyn and ask him what to take before you take anything. Feel better.

My doctor told me that sneezing was not good for my baby but I was 8mths. He was trying to talk me into taking antihistamines.
Seriously though some viruses are harmful so you should definitely see a doctor.
