I believe there're 3 causes that lead to the problems you addresses:
1. We portray God based on our own extremely limited understandings.
2. We always do things, including very bad things to get God's recognition and affection.
3. We don't really Understand God and His teachings.
Explanation:
1. We don't even understand advanced-level physics - our advancement in science is still in its infancy, how can we even expect to understand God totally based on our ignorance? Christianity taught one thing about God. Buddhism taught another. Hinduism yet another. However, if we just spend the time to study every religion in the world we will realize they are quite similar in nature. What one can't resolve is resolved by another and vise versa. We can find great wisdom even from Buddhism and Zen, which provide an extremely impartial enlightenment on what exactly is God and how we can be united with Him, for example.
2. If you do some deep study, be it based on experience or observation, you'll realize people do bad things in the name of religion share 1 common thing and that is to gain the recognition and affection of God. And why that happens, see point 3.
3. Simply speaking, we just don't really understand God and His teachings. He taught 1 thing and we perceive another. He said He made us in His image and we understand God has eyes and ears, grows beard, sit on a throne like Zeus, bla bla bla. Hey, this worldly description only exist on this world. There're many worlds out there - worlds within worlds, dimensions within dimensions. When we limit God and His teachings based on our own specification, mistakes creep in fast. We start to believe that God is as fearsome as us, as ferocious as us, as kind and merciful as us, as this and that as us.
There are suppose to be many more explanation but I hope you understand thoroughly what I try to bring out.

Excellent question and well thought out.
I have had many of the same thoughts cross my mind as well, as probably most all of us do at one time or another.
Regardless of how one views Creation, there had to be a singular point of origin. There cannot be more than one absolute being, thus there is only one God, and ALL are His creations.
Jesus said during His ministry, "You have heard that it was said, "You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your Father in heaven" (Matthew 5:43-45).
Being a former active duty Soldier, I support the War on Terror as it is something we MUST do to defend ourselves, and yet we should love Bin Laden and the terrorists just the same. Hard to reconcile??? The best way that I can understand it is when a parent punishes a child. The parent loves the child, but will cause pain/discomfort for the child at the same time. The child, it is hoped, will learn from the experience and change his ways.
The problem is when we have a scenario wherein there are those that want to kill us, and there is no possibility for any other solution except to kill them first. You cannot rehabilitate or negotiate with cancer. Kill it before it kills you. The appeasement of Adolf Hitler was tried in the 1930s and eventually led to the death of over 50,000,000 individuals world wide before he was defeated. Personally I'd like to avoid a repeat of this.
We cannot confine God or His activities even if we wanted to, so to attempt to impose our view of Him on others is ridiculous. The Apostle Paul wrote in his letter to Timothy, "I solemnly urge you: proclaim the message; be persistent whether the time is favorable or unfavorable; convince, rebuke, and encourage, with the utmost patience in teaching." 2 Tim 4:1-2
Therefore, we are told to express our beliefs, but to do so gently with patience. No one is going to have the Gospel or anything else rammed down their throat and accept it. Building trust and personal relationships are key in sharing the love of God.

"Gosh joey, your question is so complicated that no you'll answer it without faith, if you're a believer. there's no effortless organic regulation in which count number can provide upward push to recommendations, neither is any actual procedure or cloth phenomenon effortless that may try this. what's the source of the recommendations? we may be able to hence deduce that the massive quantity of recommendations in living issues might want to initially have come from an intelligence, which had to were some distance extra acceptable to ours, as scientists are revealing each day. yet then, some will say that one of those source might want to might want to be led to by employing something with even more effective recommendations/intelligence. in spite of the undeniable fact that, in the experience that they reason like this, one can ask the position this more effective recommendations/intelligence got here from? and then the position did that one come from … one can extrapolate to infinity, for ever, except … except there develop right into a source of infinite intelligence, previous our finite recognize-how."

I completely agree with you that GOD created everything and all religions of the world teach us the path to reach GOD. Unfortunately people donot understand this and create problems. Also I would like to add that most of the problems we are facing today is because of the lack of faith of people in GOD. If people really believe in GOD they should be doing bad things which they r doing today.

I believe God created everything. I'm a Christian and I believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God and He died on the cross for our sins, the reason I believe this is because my Bible tells me this is true and it is the Word of God. You have to have faith and you have to rely on your faith, if you don't then you're lost. Just some thoughts from a Southern Baptist.

We claim to believe in God, but our actions betray that. We believe that we are imperfect and this lies at the root of our shortcomings. As such inspite of what we see around us we continue to have faith in God and in the doctrine of our respective faiths.
Those who kill, harm or cause pain and grief in the name of God are wrong and misguided.

You could short-circuit this whole argument by asking: what if there's no God and the most compassionate thing we could all do is try to alleviate suffering?
