For the guys, has anyone ever mistaken you for a chick in public? Girls, anyone thought you were and looked like a guy? Do you feel great about it? Did you feel irritated by it? Did you feel completely emotionless about it?

Just wondering what your experiences where, why you thought it happened, and how you felt.

I thought I should mention that I find it interesting that mostly women have answered this question, where as there's very few guys that have.

I guess guys in general have been trained to feel afraid to talk about the messed up things that happen to them for fear of feeling less masculine. Interesting. Because, especially in todays day and age, there's a lot of guys who are thin and with long feminine-like hair walking around who get mistaken for women all the time.

Interesting.

I had long dread once because back then when I was in school, girls liked you more if you had them. But after going to college, I got mistakened for a chick a few times, and so I change my hair style to fit what people consider to be more masculine to present who I am more.

No i've never had that problem. but i'm a cashier at a nursery and i called someone over to my register and i said "M'am I can take you over here" really loudly because the other register is across the room. well the m'am was a dude. and i felt so bad, i just started to laugh and the girl who was doing the bagging and loading for me had to take over and ring him because i couldnt look him in the eye. he had long blonde hair and a very femine air about him. now i always say "i can take the next customer" instead of m'am or sir

That used to happen all the time. For like ten years, from age 9 until I was about 19, people kept mistaking me for a guy. At first I was very surprised and didn't really understand how that was even possible, but then I got used to it. It didn't give me any particular feeling, I wasn't annoyed or flattered.

Why it happened? I think my face is not typical for either gender, it's probably hard to tell by my face which one I am. I have a strong looking body and before I got boobs it probably looked more like a guy's body. I usually wear sporty clothes, not typical fashion clothes that are popular among girls/women, so that might have contributed. I never use make-up or do much of the things most women do about their looks. My voice is pretty deep for a female so I probably sounded more like a guy before when guys my age didn't have a man's voice yet.

So a lot of things contributed I guess. Things are different now. I rarely get mistaken for a guy anymore (I'm 24 years old now). I guess my boobs are hard to miss by now and my voice isn't deep enough to suit a man my age. Some people seem to get the idea I'm a lesbian though when they first meet me, until they find out I'm married to a man.

It's never happened to me but did happen to a patient i took shopping! Her features were pretty masculine originally and she had suffered a double masectomy as well (Cancer). We went to a coffee shop before going back to the ward and ordered coffee and apple pie. I was waiting to pay when the waitress told me that they had no fresh cream left, would the gentleman mind custard iustead. I told her the person with me was not a gentleman but a lady. She overheard me, told me it happened all the time, adding she'd past caring but she hadn't as if she had ... She wouldn't have been so tearful afterwards. I felt so sorry for her!

No, but I have mistaken women for men over the phone because of their low, husky voices. They weren't insulted because I am so sweet and good at sales, I could sell candy to a diabetic, not that I would.

Yep, frequently. I'm female. The first time I was mistaken for a boy I was only 4 years old!
I decided to go ahead and make my avatar male.
It doesnt bother me, there's less than 99 percent genetic difference between male and female anyway, so who cares?

human beings are so very bolder while hiding at the back of their pc. i think of there is plenty irrelevant behaviour on fb. i don't think of that's way less appropriate on your spouse to overtly flirt with and flatter strangers on fb than that's in public.

When I was 15 I used to wear my hair going back in a long pony tail that was braided. I wore no makeup, and I would wear baggy jeans and oversized shirts. (It was the early 90's) This girl walked up to me and said "My friend wanted me to ask you for your number". I looked over at her friend thinking it was a boy that was too shy to come up to me himself, but it was a girl! I said to the girl that came over to me "I'm a FEMALE"!! She looked so shocked and confused, then she ran over to her friend and they both started busting up!(laughing)!! After that, I started to wear fitted jeans, and a little lip gloss. I also started wearing my hair down. It wasn't funny at the time, but now I crack myself up when I think about it.
