They do both actually. Theaters sometimes ONLY have English with subtitles and sometimes the offer movies with subtitles and other times where it is dubbed.
Be careful though, movies cost 1,800 yen. That is $15. Movies are expensive in Japan.

Personally, having watched hundreds of Japanese films, English dubs tend to ruin them or just make them seem stupid, so I recommend Subtitles for sure. As for which ones are best, Ju On and Ringu are best by far, (The original versions of The Grudge and The Ring). Audition is also a pretty good movie, but it's more strange than scary... I suggest looking up the original versions of American-remakes and go from there, because usually the original is quite scarier than it's American counterpart. Hope this helps =)

Children's movies are dubbed, but other movies are almost always subtitled. The only place you'll routinely see dubbed live-action movies is on broadcast TV. But occasionally they will dub movies even for the grown-up crowd, so look for the word 字幕 (jimaku) when you get to the theater. That means "subtitles."

both. For example Miami Vice was only avaialble in English with Japanese subtitles. Over the Hedge was shown in Subtitled and Japanese dubbed audio. The weekly TV/Movie magazines list the theatres and the movie's details. If you go to a Virgin-Toho Cinema, you can see the listing online and in English explaining the times and details.

broadcast in both English and Japanese. You need a stereo TV if you want to watch in English.

Just remember to fill a backpack full of beer, Japanese people won't say anything if you drink, even if they care. Six of the tall cans should do the trick for the movie, I don't remember how Spider Man II ended, but It was fun.
