Do you mean a personal favorite, or a film that was influential in the art of filmaking? I've studied film in college, so it's hard to choose one, so I'll mention some films I think are truly great: Citizen Kane, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Seven Samurai, The Bicycle Thief, Battle of Algiers, The Third Man, M, The Big Sleep, 8-1/2, Blow-Up, Wild Strawberries, Rashomon....is that too many?

There are too many out there that I can't choose just one.
So, I have categories.

Horror: The Cabinet of Dr.Caligari...it is an old movie...just a creepy movie.

Comedy:Any Mel Brooks movies...genius dialogue and Harvey Korman.

Serious thinker type of movie: Crash...it is very true to life.

Guilty pleasure movie: Flashdance or Road House
