Yes, America is a great country, for all we crab about it constantly. Part of that is because we have the right to crab about it without any cops at the door for it.
San Francisco is a wonderful city. I lived there from 1976 to 1985, and those were "formative years" in my life. I met Steve there, so I will never be indifferent to it. But I did not leave my heart in San Francisco; he brought me back with him to Santa Cruz!
The central coast of California, basically from San Francisco south to at least Monterey, if not further, is just a little short of heaven. Yes, there are problems -- it's not literally heaven, after all -- but for many, many reasons, it's awfully nice.
Slightly inland (just over the mountains I live in, to be precise), there is San Jose and the famous Silicon Valley. People up in these hills drive out of here at like 4:00 am in their BMWs and Porsches to drive through the redwood forest and over the hill to San Jose to make large numbers of dollars in the electronics and software industry in Silicon Valley. Then in the evening, they drive those air conditioned luxury cars back through the redwood forest into the trees, where they have homes in excess of $1 million in value.
Yeah, it's a great place to live, but it IS expensive! Of course, there are less expensive parts, like the agricultural areas near Watsonville and Salinas, but much of the central coast is terribly expensive. Because as they say in real estate, the three most important factors are location, location and location.

America is a great country just like the rest of the world. I love the place of course I am bais and it is my home continent. I love the States and that is where my heart is at. Before you go anywhere do your research. Find out where the things you want to see are. How much things are going to cost? What packages does your place of stay have?
The U.S. is a big country you could travel for days and not have seen everything. Research, Research, Research. Like for instant what do you want to do in San Fran. Is it the night life, or scenic exploration check the web for more information? If you plan your trip out and leave room to deviate you'll have fun.
If you are young I recommend youth hostels but bring something to kill the bed bugs. Hang out in the lobby and meet people from all over the world and hang out with them. But that is just a suggestion. I would also plan sometime in a regular hotel.

Yes, America is a great country. We have all kinds of freedoms, can speak our minds, and the people as a whole are very nice. I have been to San Francisco, and it is beautiful. Visit Lombard Street (the crooked street), Fisherman's Wharf, Coit Tower, ride the cable cars. If you like sports, see a football or baseball game. Many wonderful restaurants there. Have a great time! Thank you for wanting to visit our country.

I wonder why you feel this way. U shouldve told us why u love it. I'm American but I don't love it. I do have some appreciation for it though.
generalizations:
PROS-
-friendly out-going people (in respect to Japan, where I live)
-people are able to be creative and express themselves freely
-they know how to let loose and have a good time (though sometimes too much)
-they have the ability to celebrate diversity
-American sports, movies, music, etc are fun and exciting and thus rather well-known around the world
-it's easier to live freely and be your own person in society than in some other countries
-You can learn about numerous cultures or try a number of different cuisines (given that true "American cuisine" is ambiguous) all in one country
-large country with diverse landscapes and abundant resouces
-ability to explore different careers relatively easily compared to some other countries
-ability to go from rags to riches with a bit of determination and luck
CONS -
-Americans are often closed-minded, especially in respect to the global community
-they're overly patriotic, arrogant and boastful for no good reason
-American foreign policy is just crap
-they're super over-consumers, don't save well, aslways want more
-given their global position, theyre too wasteful - bad about environmental precautions
-the drinking limits cause too many young people rebel and do stupid things
-the media and education system which creates their mentality and behavior and is so disliked by a number of countries internationally

We are like any other country, we have a wonderful amount of problems like for starters, everyone want to assassin our president because he invades other countries. Also we don't have any health care to speak of here. And least of all, it's very expensive especially in San Francisco!
