If you haven't done this course, in a few years' time, you might regret about it. After all, it is only two years and even though you don't know what opportunities it will lead to, it's always good to be equipped for any opportunity that may come your way. Also, there's no better way to feel rejuvenated than learning something new and making a few friends at the same time.

You may feel old at the age of 40 but the strange thing about aging is that you'll actually feel younger in a few years' time when you're approaching 50. It's true of many people that they feel younger when they are in their fifties than when they are 30-ish and wish they had the skill to take on new challenges. Carry on with this course and look after yourself. The world is your oyster, no matter what your age is.

NO YOU ARE NOT WASTING YOUR TIME!

I stayed at home to look after my 3 children there was 5 years between each of them and I didn’t have my first until I was 27.
At the age of 55 when they had all Finally left home I decided to learn to drive AND to go to collage to learn how to use a computer.
The family had left one behind; little did I know that it was out of date. However both on the same day the only mistake I think I made I took my first driving lesson and my first computer lesson.

A bit too much for a 55 year old to take in however I persevered passed my Driving test aged 57, Theory with one mistake, hazard perception with the only double clip pass in our region learnt how to use a computer went on to do the ECDL and some of the advanced parts of the course.

I was understandably very proud of my achievements and hoped that I would find a job with my newfound skills. Alas this was not to be as with a diagnosis of Arthritis and I think my age no one was impressed with my achievements but me and my Family for months & then years I was devastated that I had achieved so much, tried so hard was considered too OLD AND UNDISIRRABLE FOR WORK.

I still would have done what I did and am ready for any course that I am offered. I left school with no qualifications but learnt how to COOK, WASH CLOTHES, BE THRIFTY, and APPRIECIATE OTHERS.

I hope I was a good mother,

Go for it you are never too old to learn and hopefully you WILL be luckier than I was.

GOOD LUCK

One of my good friends that I went to college with was 65 years old. Her dream was to become an illustrator for childrens books, and spent four years at an art school with some very liberal young students. She found it to be one of the best experiences of her life. I noticed that the older students took the education much more seriously and I believe took more away with them than the kids right out of high school. I almost wish I had waited to go to college because I would have understood the importance of it more than I did then. 2 years isn't a long time and the feeling of accomplishing your dream will be unlike anything you've ever experienced before. Good luck, and don't ever feel like you're wasting your time. There are so many people who would love to be in your position that can't because of family, job or thier financial situation.

You are NEVER too old to learn and, knowledge is POWER.
If what you are studying at college is what YOU like just go ahead and do it. In to day’s world there is no such a thing as too old or to late. Just look around. People as YOUNG as 20s or 60s become leaders, millioners or famous. In my opinion, to answer your question, having the knowledge and some life’s experience puts you a step ahead. To succeed It is only matter of willingness and focus on the task ahead. It will only become a waste of time if you procrastinate. Finish your study and put it into good use. You will be a winner.

NO. You are not wasting your time.
I went to University at 42 and gained a science degree when lots of people said, " what do you want to do that for?".
I wanted to do it for ME not for anybody else.
It was hard work and I felt very lonely at times as most of the other students were about 19 -23 years old, but I stuck at it and I think I did well, so keep it up and you will be surprised how quickly the time goes. Enjoy you new adventure and very good luck for the future.

Doubt it, it'll be great and open up a whole new world probably.

Maybe you feel like this because you are older than the other studuents ? This often happens with vocational courses such as yours, chainsaws, plumbers/sparkies....

At 40 you've got so much more to offer than a younger student. Would they know how to set up thier own Horticultural business ? doubt it. Can they talk properly to customers? doubt it

Stick with it. You would certainly be wasting your time if you packed it in.

Best of luck

You don't say what you are planning to do with this education, but even if you just want to know more for your own benefit its worthwhile at any age. I've always loved plants and horticulture so took my master gardeners course and then another course very similar to it for volunteering in the arboretum here. It was one of the best things I ever did for myself. Was in my 50s. Best wishes in finding what you want.

No its not a waste of time, it can open many doors for you, you still have many working years left. If you do find it hard to get a job afterwards, which I doubt, then you could always think about setting up your own business. Anyway lifes meant to begin at forty, so go for it, if you enjoy it.
