Spiders don't really respond well to chemical treatments (unless you have time to track down and directly spray every one of them). They don't tend to be affected by any sort of residual treatment (where you spray a surface and hope it will repel or kill the spider when it walks across the surface later). Residual treatments just tend to be too weak.
These exclusionary tactics are useful for spiders, as well as many other uninvited creepy-crawlies:
-Plug up any entry points you can find. Foundation cracks, loose insulation, little-used drains, etc.
-Inspect any natural harborage you may bring from the outside--fruits & veggies, wood, plants, etc.--before bringing it into the house.
-Screen all your windows.
-Don't allow limbs, leaves, or roots to come in contact with your house--these are natural bridges for pests. Similarly, don't put your mulch beds or wood piles right up next to the foundation.
-Clean up any clutter indoors that the buggers may be using as harborage (they love old cardboard boxes left peacefully in the dark corner!).
-Also tightly seal your stored food, clean up dirty dishes promptly, and fix any leaks/clean up spills, to prevent food and water access.
-Vacuum and dust regularly.
As some of the other posters have mentioned, the problem will probably calm down, or disappear entirely, with a change in seasons. Good luck to you!

they will get less as the days get cooler. And as for 3 in half an hour- is it the same spider? Hopefully the spiders are doing you a favour by feediing on some other insect you really wouldnt want in the house. So be nice to them :) I just hope they stay out of the bath for you - that's the one place i hate finding them

The ones you're seeing are probably the males hunting out a female. The females are normally hidden away and you'll rarely see them. They are a lot bigger and usually eat the male after mating. So once breeding time is over there should be half the amount of spiders about, namely the females who are going to be hiding away out of sight. Give it another month or so.

I am afraid to say It's their mating season at the moment!! I don't know how long this goes on for.
But I am too petrified of spiders.
I have a good husband and a good son of 12 years old, that gets rid of them for me and my daughter of 7 years old, as we both hate them.
I think they will be about until the frost comes!, I heard about this on GMTV.
I know what you mean they are huge, the spiders that come in to are house are usually the male looking for the female in her web and when they usually find her, SHE KILL THEM!!!. HA HA HA!!!.
I have 6 cats and none of them eat spiders they eat everything but them.

I have some stjuff called ANTI ARAIGNEES REPLUSIF. It is manufactured by, chatelaine, 42380 La Tourette, France. Tel: 04 77 50 58 00.
This stuf will not kill the pests, it jus persuades them to go elsewhere.
I can't remember exactle where I bought it but it was through a catalogue.
Good luck.

Spiders live in your house all the year round approximately 400 - 500 spiders per 3 bedroomed house, they will start to hibernate soon for winter. No need to worry they are more scared of you than you are of them. they won't bite.

Simple their is a plug called pest-x it sends a very high frequency noise that dose get rid off spiders, ants, rats, mice etc.
the plug is around £30 but dose work, however it will keep cats and dogs away also.

It's their mating season at the moment, so I guess they'll be around for a few weeks. I find the yellow pages dropped from waist height deminishes the problem.

Not sure, but you should really be catching them and putting them out, while they are within your house obviously they will breed, if you can't bring yourself to do it see if someone will help, I use a large glass and slide thin card or something underneath, hope you sort it they are rather daunting when they are big

I saw this on "How Clean Is Your House?": apparently spiders have their smell receptors on their legs, therefore if you rub your walls with some citric acid or something like that, they will disappear, because they hate that citric acid (I don't remember the actual name - it was longer and more complicated).
