If so, why? For me, I am suddenly thinking that if I didn't spend so much time dwelling on my love-life, I would accomplish great things. I look around me at other people, and I see a similar pattern. What do you think?

If the person you are with inhibits your potential, then it could be true that romantic relationships distract us from being our best thus hindering us from accomplishing great things.

But it is true too, that finding extraordinary people who encourages the best in us could lead to us creating even greater things.

I guess it's just a matter of finding that extraordinary person who'll let us shine the brightest.

Well you have a great point there.

I believe most people knows old Richard Newton.
He was a great scientist.
He staid celibate until the day he died.
He accomplished what us normal okes would only dream of.
We do waist time and effort on our love lives.

But then again Richard Newton worked a needle around his eye to see what would happen. All in the name of science they say?
I believe he was so sexually frustrated that he lost his mind!

So romance does take time and effort but the rewards are so much more.

romantic relationships, ideally, should recharge our batteries and give us incentive to look life's bighter side.. however this is just ideally, and I think that they are time consuming, especially if one has love problems, and they may mislead one into attaching too much importance on them..I think that often times we are looking for self validation through a relationship, and that can be very misleading as to our true self worth.. I found myself many a times fighting a lost battle trying to get things to work with eventually the wrong people

No they dont. If the relationship crosses the limit and going beyond that, like too much of possessiveness, infatuation etc, will lead to distractions. Normally, any good relation will give a second thought on what step we take in life.

Yes, I'm the same way.
It's great for the relationship. as I am very devoted...just not so great for the other things in my life.
It usually gets to the point where I have to just say - look, I need some time to focus on myself in order to accomplish particular things.
The right person will understand.
Of course, I keep him around, just not as often.

When I was with someone that I cared about, I always thought that life was headed i nthe right direction. I never really realized how everything actually was. I don't know if that is the best thing, but by being with someone that I loved, I thought I was accomplishing something great.

It can if both people are focused on just each other.

But if there is a purpose that is greater than ourselves (and one another) to which we are both committed, then our relationship becomes a framework of support to accomplish things even greater than what was possible had we tried to do it on our own.

Sometimes, to accomplish extraordinary things, we need extraordinary people beside us to help keep us going on this journey when all others have left us hanging out to dry.

Ah oui, viva l'amour.

For some folks, romance is indeed a distraction.

But, with some others it provides a motivation to succeed. To obtain that much sought after prize, to excel at something so as to provide for that loved one.

On the average, I say it is more of a distraction though. At least from my own personal observation it is.

The greatest thing you can create is love. If you learn nothing else on this site learn that. Without love everything you create is meaningless. What are you creating things for? Love.

We do it because we feel that our romantic selves are a huge part of who we are, i personally feel that for the most part the attention i give to my romantic self, helps more than hinders the rest of my life, because it makes me want to better myself in all areas.......
