Whichever team has the better head-to-head record. In this case the Tigers won 11 of 19 games against the Twins, therefore, they would be the division champs.

The Yankees won the division last year because they owned the head to head tie breaker with The Red Sox.
Since The Tigers own the head to head tie breaker with The Twins, The Tiger would get the division and The Twins would get the wild card.

Like everyone said, head-to-head record. If the loser of the division didn't already have the Wild Card, they would have to have a one-game playoff.

Actually, they would have a one-game playoff at the end of the season. Detroit won the coin flip for home field against the Twins, but they will play in Chicago should they tie.

Hawk79 answered it. Head to head records. Yankees and Boston finished with same records last year and Yankees won it based on better head to head record.

Head to head competition. Who won the season series between the two teams.

It would depend on which team would win the one game playoff between the two tied teams. I'd go with the Twins because their style of baseball would most likely win in a one game playoff.

I am a Yankees fan, but I have to say....

The starting pitchers have to step up, and they must finish strong....we are counting on J. Bonderman, and N. Robertson...
J. Verlander and K. Rogers...they both must be stable to continue to win.

J. Santana is nearly unbeatable.....and Minnesota is on top of wild card lead.....so watch out AL teams
