It was my first anniversary last year and we bought each other theatre tickets to a big west end show. It was a good excuse for us to make a big day out of it - we don't live in london so we booked a night in a nice (but reasonably priced) hotel and had a nice pre-show meal too. It was a very romantic night and it was nice to be away from home for the evening too.

Congrats by the way!

Framed Decorative Marriage Certificate, they have old fashioned ones, from flowers to wilderness themes. If you are Jewish get a ketubah, a prayer for a marriage frame it. Get family stationary from Vistaprint.com you design the logo and the look online. Make a calendar at the same place. Design free sex coupons and print them up on your home computer. Have fun with it! You can always give a bond, money, stocks or some other paper investment. Boring in my opinion. Get him a book? Buy him a magazine subscription. Some more expensive artwork is done with paper cut, watercolors, pen and ink etc. make a SCRAPBOOK, that would be cool!

Get him a really nice bit of decent sized polished petrified wood. The tree could represent the the fact it was never made into paper. If you live in America there is a massive rock show coming up in Denver.

A nice book, or a gift voucher for a bookstore!!!

A more unusual present would be to contact a quality newspaper & ask them for a print of the edition that was published on the day he was born & the day you were married. That's what I would do.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

Since the first anniversary is paper try what I did. I made a mock cheque from "Cupid tlc" paying all my love to her. My wife loved it and we're five years and still counting.

Go for a romantic meal and "present" the cheque to him.

give him 12 paper vouchers (drawn and written in your own fair hand) one for each month of the coming year together, which he can redeem throughout the year, vouchers can be for a massage, a night off from doing the dishes, a romantic dinner for two, etc etc - each voucher is related to things he either really likes doing and encourages it or things he hates doing and gives him a 'get out clause'
should make for a fun 12 months for the both of you

How about making him a little scrapbook of the most special events of your first year together. Also, how about something just the two of you would understand but is special. I gave my husband a macadamia nut gift package because when we were in Hawaii on our honeymoon, he became obsessed with the macadamia nuts. He really appreciated the thought and effort I had put into his gift. Happy Anniversary!
