a really good flashlight, a bottle-what the hell- a case of charter 10, and a pound of weed.

Anything that you will not be able to use but others can. If it is a FREE BOX well you might just add up a sort of advice coupons inside, word for the day inside or if you are generous and have lots of time on hand, cookies? Hmmmm...it also depends where you will leave it and when and how......is it in a conspicous place? a park? placed in an open box? a painted wooden box? etc. It should not be construed as a bomb though...someone might call 911 and report that there is an anonymous box lying in the park...you know. But it's a nice idea......why don't you just place it in your garage instead of having a garage sale you have a GARAGE FREEBIES day......

Nice idea but in these troubled times of ours, not very practicable. Imagine leaving the box in a park in London, the whole city would come to a standstill whilst the Bomb Squad investigated. However, in a more tranquil period you could put in some "headache tablets" and maybe a copy of the local paper advertising "Jobs available" Don"t forget the English/Polish translation book.

That's an interesting idea but I think it would be better to donate the items to a charity like The Salvation Army so you know they will go to good use. If I were to make a "Free Box", I would put old books and clothes that don't fit in it.

I've created many free boxes for garage sales, but my friends come over and take everything before it gets to the garage sales.
I also make them when I give them to Thrift stores.
I put everything in them Jewlery, books, Bible Tracts, Small toys,CDs,figurines, unused candles, newpackages of insences, notebooks, cards, hats, stationary sets, cute boxes and anything else I can find.

What a lovely idea
I'd put in mine:
A copy of Lord of the Rings (book), some paper and a pen, a chocolate bar, a carton of fresh orange juice, a dried flower, a squirt of perfume and a copy of Man Ray's "Observatory Time - The Lovers"

if i was going to leave a free box somewhere it would contain a smile, you open the box it appears to be empty apart from a small slip of paper saying " this box contains one large smile enjoy" guarantee that if you watch them read this they will smile.

I was fond of playing scrabble when I was young. I use to visit my neighbor since they own the board game. We would compete and try to outwit each other to win the game. Scrabble helps us to enrich our vocabulary and keeps us entertained at the same time.
I love it!

Chocolate-chip cookies, some good books, some colored pencils and paper,a Scrabble game, and one of those springy snakes that jumps out ,so whoever opened it would get a real surprise before they got to the good stuff!Oh,and a crisp,,juicy apple and a bottle of water.

I used to make anonymous care packages for people at church that I knew were having a hard time.Toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, laundry detergent, fun cookies, koolaid and bandaids. what a nice gesture you have in mind.

I would put books in it, because I love books and would hope that others do also.
By the way, the internet version of your idea is called Freecycle.
