Use them! On top of that, shut off the borders as well! Bug anyone we think may be a terrorist or someone who is in league with them of wanting to destroy and kill the country and the Americans that live here! With that said, bug mosques, bug their houses or wherever they stay, bug their vehicles. The minute they talk anything about destroying, bringing down or killing Americans, capture them! Get information out of them, use the information, put them on file and kick them out of the country! Keep watch on them as well, monitor them everyday and let them lead us to the rest of those terrorists scums!

The time of individual will and rights is over with the minute we let them into the country! Trained them to fly our planes, let them cross the border illegally and crash American planes into our buildings, killing our people! But no, can't do that at all, it is insensitive to their people, it is wrong to profile terrorists or suspects. It is wrong to be "mean" it is wrong to listen in on terrorists plotting to blow us up! Phone tapping, Sir? Are you insensitive towards muslims and other people for thinking they might be possible terrorists?

PHONE TAP THE HELL OUT OF THOSE TERRORISTS AND EVERYONE ELSE WE THINK MAY OR IS AFFILIATED WITH THEIR KIND!

I think phone taps to fight terrorism are a good idea. I also think there's no excuse for not getting a FISA warrant in order to get a phone tap.

For those of you who don't know: FISA warrants are required by law, and the big hullabaloo over warrants is because the Bush administration hasn't been getting 'em. Note that under the law, the warrants are secret (so the person being tapped will never know), and the government can tap a phone for 72 hours before getting the warrant (so there's no need for delay if circumstances call for urgency).

I'm shocked and dismayed at the number of people who want to throw our civil liberties to the wind, when there's really no good reason to do so. Warrantless wiretaps and all that patriot act stuff really isn't necessary for fighting terrorism.

Once you grant the government a power, it's very difficult to take it back - and any power granted to the government has the potential to be abused. Even if you trust the current administration, are you sure you can trust all the future administrations of presidents that haven't been elected yet?

There havent been any wiretaps to fight terroism (unless with a court order). This is a miconception. The phone companies are accused of giving the NSA dialing records. Not audio or transcripts. Just what number called another number. No big deal.

Unless you're a criminal or a terrorist, why would you care?

I think it should be done within the law. Not like it is being handled now. Why can't they get the warrants, any judge would have signed off if it truly is to " fight terrorism".

Wiretapping should not be conducted by police authorities unless there is a court order authorizing it. That way, the court will determine whether there is actually a need for such wiretapping - that means necessary for the conviction of a certain criminal. The court shall also limit the authority for the wiretapping; that is, it should be for a limited period and place

Nixon had his enemies list, now Bush has his, we have a right to privacy, how can we inflict our ideals of freedom on others when we lose our freedom more and more every passing day that the GOP rules?

That's the least of our worries!
Just be glad they're doing something!

At least they are not tapping random phones, like they search random people at the airport. (Sheesh.)

i think it is a good idea, but they shouldn't have to pass a law on it

Everyone wants to complain about their civil liberties being violated, until we are attacked by terrorists. Then they want to blame the government for not being vigilant enough.
