The disadvantages in just relying on an interview for selecting an applicant for a job? is that an interview alone is that candidates can become very practised at interview technique and present themselves in a better light. They can also overstate their ability to perform a role.

Nevertheless, structured interview techniques have a tendency to elict better responses and because you present all applicants with the same questions, it becomes a lot easier to judge one against the other.

The key skill in interviewing is assertaining what questions + questioning techniques are best utilised for the situation. Many an interviewer falls short of recruiting the best by relying on 1 standard vanilla interview
