Hi, here is the situation. I worked for 10 months for a dot com company.
Due to a lack of cash, they had to laid me off. At the exit interview, my boss asked me if I wanted to sell them a domain I own. They agreed to pay me $12,000 in 12 monthly payment. This was 07/20. The first payement was due 08/10. They did not pay. I contacted them but did not return phone calls. We exchange emails 10 days ago where I was saying that I expect a payement of $2,000. They said that they will try to meet the dateline of 09/10 for 2K. They argue taht they are short in cash. I do have something in writing, signed by the C.T.O of the company, saying the deal, 12 payement, 12 times $1,000, the dates and everything, something who looks solid to me. We are now the 09/14 and I did not get anything yet. What can I do? Will I ever see my money? How if they close their business, is the debt still valid to me? Should I pursue legal action, should I use a collection Agency? I want to fight hard for the money.

Hopefully your agreement said that they would not get ownership but only get use of the domain name until the total due was paid in full. If that is the case just pull the use of the name for them, otherwise you are going to have to drag them to court and get a judgment against them ..ask the judge either for the money or for your domain name back. if you ask for the domain name back you should be able to use the judgment to get the registrar to transfer the domain back to you!

As far as can you do anything if they close the company the answer is probably NO.. YES, persue legal action. NO a collection agency can't help you without a judgement..
Good Luck!

Hi JMR, These people don't intend to pay you anything. You need to take legal action against these dead beats. At least you do have something in writing and your c.t.o. signed it.You could also get ahold of a lawyer and get some legal advice from him.Alot of lawyers will give you 30 minutes free. You might want to check that out to.$12000.00 is not peanut changes. Go and get them and your money.I truely hope everything works out for you. GOOD LUCK.
