Let's just put it like this: A study was done that showed the average person takes five years of schooling to learn what the average person in a single year of schooling learns when studying Spanish.

Japanese is not an easy language and you cannot just learn a few things and be able to even remotely get around the country properly. The Japanese, as a generalized whole, can be quite xenophobic and will not appreciate a person like you entering their country and only knowing a few butchered words.

Hell, tigglys' answer isn't even very good. Better examples would be ones that even have a hint at politeness because, as a gaikokujin (foreigner), being as polite as possible would be best:

"Hajimemashite. Watashi no onamae ha [name] desu. Yoroshiku onegai shimasu."
"Sumimasen. [drink name] onegai shimasu."

Drinks:
Water: omizu
Beer: biru
Wine: Wain
Coffee: Koohii

What's wrong with the clothing labels we have here? Young Japanese are constantly trying to look "American", dressing like normal won't do you any harm.

America: Amerika
England: Igirisu
China: chuugoko
Japan: Nihon
Australia: Osutoraria

If you do a program to teach english, don't worry about it, you will learn. Japanese takes a bit longer than most languages to be able to hold a conversation. In Tokyo, you can get around on the basics easy enough. Knowing Kanji is a big help and will speed up learning the language. Nihonjin are patient so you won't have to worry about messing up. The problem is they won't always tell you when you are wrong. They will just tell you your Nihongo is very good.

My name is: Watashi no namae wa (fill in with name, last then first)

Water: O-mizu suki desu

Fashion Labels? I don't know what you mean.

Countries? Depends on which one - they all have their own names.

If you have your Bachelors degree, try finding one of those programs which will take you to Japan to teach English. They are very good. You won't get rich doing it, but you will learn Japanese while you are there.

Best of luck - gambatte!!
