Purchasing new laptop - would now have the XP. Yet I understand Vista (new operating system) could be out by 1st of the year (but then may be delayed also). If you're a 'pro' in this department, we'd appreciate your recommendations. Use for e-mail, pictures, small business operations.(Media/entertainment not that important).

Even assuming that Vista is going to be launched in 3 months time, & also assuming that it is totally bug / trouble free ., my choice would be XP.

It is a proven & tested platform & support will be available at least for another 4 to 5 years !

The higher the operating system, the higher the system requirements. Vista's sure gonna be "resource hungry"

& i do not like feeding vista with all these resources, which i can better use for my applications !

Stick with the old reliable XP till Vista has its bugs worked on a little. I'll wait till SP2, or so. We all know Microcrap never gets it right the first time around.

Vista requires a whole lot of processing and video power. Most computers in use today can't support it. Microsoft is confident that the machines to be released early next year will be able to handle Vista's requirements. Some retail machines today can already run Vista, but chances are, your new laptop won't. CHECK ON THIS BEFORE YOU BUY! Unless, of course, you're content to stick with your tried and true XP for another year or so.

I basically offered a working laptop or pc final month with Vista on it and that i've got had honestly no issues. From what I incredibly have heard lots of the matters come from attempting to enhance your pc. in case you do get a clean pc be sure you get a extra useful than average one so as that i will run Vista right

Go for XP Service Pack 2. It works well, and there is no need to wait for something which might not be that much better. If/when Vista comes out, and it looks to be enough better to be worth the bother, you can upgrade later.

Unless you know a lot about computers, I would not rush to get the new version of Windows (Vista), because any time they come out with a new version it seems like there are almost always issues. I usually wait until it's been out at least 6 months or so until I pick up the new version, and then there has to be a good reason for me to upgrade too.

I'm not one to rush out and buy the new version of Microsoft software, every time some exec at Microsoft breaks wind and out comes a new version of something. Contrary to their belief, I'm not made out of money.
