Its a amalgamation of mercury and gold don't worry take the ring to gold smith he will cure it simply by burning mercury with the help of blow pipe.
If u have that blow pipe then u can burn that white pipe in ur gas burner with the help of blow pipe.

This question previously appeared in this forum, and I answered it thus: what has happened is that the mercury and gold have formed what is called an amalgam. The mercury can be separated out by heating. Any stones in the ring must be removed before this is done. Place the ring on a block of wood, and heat it carefully with a propane torch until it just barely starts to glow (this will be a temperature of about 1100 F.). Continue this for a few minutes, then let it cool and polish it. (Be sure to do this out of doors.)

what you now have is a thallium , mercury, gold amalgum-- almost all metals are infintely soluble in mercury, the only way to recover the gold is to "distill" off the mercury, which boils/ evaproates at a lower temprature than gold. but you can never get it completely purified. good luck with that!

dont't worry. ehen mercury meet gold the colour of gold becomes turn to grey in colour after one or two week the gold will get its orginal colour. after that the gold has no problem. i think this is due to the suface reaction between mercury and gold.

I feel that gold can never react with mercury at room temperature and atmospheric pressure.( actually a metal can't react with a metal at all ! )
