need to purchase a laptop and with your knowledge asking which brand you would suggest and why. Basic needs of e-mail, small business useage, pictures. (Media/videos not important).

You do not buy a computer by brand name! Get out and look at the different computers to see if your eye sight likes the screen!
It does not matter who's computer it is if your eye sight is not happy with the screen!
There is no Santa Claus in the market place, no one is giving any thing away and prices in the computer field reflect greed, old technique or the newest technique.
If you like the screens, for the same money, check hard drive size (How many GB), How much RAM, 512MB is a joke, 256MB belongs in the trash can, 1GB or more is beautiful.
Dual 64bit processor is better than a processor that does not say 64bit. Ask if it has built in wireless capability. Windows XP Pro is a better deal than Windows Home. Do not get swayed with a cheaper price and a video camera, or a lot of software.
You are purchasing a computer, not the so called give aways.

if all your wanting is e-mail and pictures and business usage then i suggest Compaq or Sony
Compaq - they are cheaper than sony and can do almost the same.
Sony - More exp[ensive and has more memory space than compaq.
(Do not get a gateway they suck) Here are my others
Dell
HP
If your wanting a cheaper computer then compaq or dell are it but you have to call dell and order there computers dell is the cheapest but if your needing it now compaq it is. HP is a little more expensive than compaq but has just a little more to offer like more memory but over all compaq is the best choice of all the above.
